Every successful software company eventually builds 2 products.
1️⃣ The one customers buy.
2️⃣ The engineering foundations that enable it - auth, monitoring, security, audit, pipelines...
Most teams never plan for the second one.
Some thoughts on why 👇

I’ve repeatedly seen teams spend enormous effort rebuilding the same foundations: auth, audit, observability, deployment pipelines, security controls etc. I'd guesstimate up to 60% of engineering can be focused on non-domain features or differentiators https://t.co/N46QNuooxt
@scottwambler It’s a shame but I think you’re correct @scottwambler. Too often the governance does not come from an IT authority (by which I mean Engineer I guess)
The documented explanations I've found aren't always the clearest, so for anyone else who prefers a visual explanation of the differences between AWS dedicated tenancy types this video pretty much nails it https://t.co/0jcx5l1XVk #aws#ec2#awssecurityspecialty
Anyone used AWS Artifact? Is it binding and in some way enforced (via one of the other Services)? Not sure how meaningful it is otherwise... 🤔 #aws#artifact#awsartifact@awscloud
@rebwriteswrongs Yep. 20 years in Software Engineering. Sold my house and shutdown my business and tried to sail around the world. Got from London to the Philippines, Covid obviously 🙄 Now settling in Canada and looking for my next career move...
@basecamp You sure? I’d be keen to know more as and when this changes if you think I can help... For the record, I can appreciate your current positioning #BasecampGate
@mattwynne I prefer to call it Business Debt. The Business pays the bill and I try to incorporate everyone into ownership, not just sweep it under the carpet as Tech’s problem... Dragons 🐉 does sound cooler though 😁
Any thoughts on a document metadata tool to capture (and NOT store) a fractured documentation system? I just want to capture where the documents are and some info about them, not migrate them to some other system. (please don't say Excel 🙈) #dms#opensource#document#metadata
@BetaKit Hugely disappointing to hear this. Having recently moved to Canada from the UK my gut feel is the Canadian tech scene is about 10yrs behind the UK. Plenty of opportunity, but also requires the regulators to up their game! Come on, Canada 🇨🇦 move with the times! 👏🏼
