a quick note on startups (didn't feel qualified enough to make this a blog post, take it or leave it)
- the point of a startup is to have a bet based on new technology, new IP, some novel way of thinking, whatever that changes the fundamental physics of how people are already doing things
- by definition this will/should feel strange at first to everyone, and it's your job to figure out the story/narrative to make people _want_ it (whether by software, marketing, both, etc). traction is key, you have to make yourself desirable
- and going up against incumbents means that your one feature/bet has to be _so good_ that users will be fans of your thing even if you're missing very obvious features that your competitors have
- then, you need to have constructed your operation/company/workforce to move so quickly that even if/when other people copy your thing, you're moving on to the next thing that your thing uniquely enables
- without this... construction, you're otherwise simply competing to build a good business. that's not bad, but so much harder to be ambitious
best of luck
