Superb, concise explanation by Adam Hanieh of how and why the US-Israeli war on Iran is having such massive impacts on economies and production around the world:

Grateful to the @HazCenter team, especially Jolie Breeden for all of her support, my co-curators of I’m Literally Taking It Out the Mud, Janay Nachel Frazier, @thisisdehistory and most importantly, the Black women whose stories who captured in this project. ✨
“The solutions to the most pressing disaster challenges lie with those most deeply affected by them. Artivism amplifies their voices.”
So excited that I got to write this piece about artivism (art-based activism) and disaster research - check it out below!
Learn how creative methods like artivism can be used to achieve social justice and reduce suffering in this latest #ResearchCounts. https://t.co/XqmLulXIZI @_graced4this, @BTW_Movement
Thrilled to announce that the first issue of Journal Disaster Studies has now been published! You can read more about our journal on the @PennPress blog. A direct link to our first issue (in open-access) is available here: https://t.co/94OlmV0FKX
Check out this compelling talk by Felicia Henry (who joins @AmericanU this fall) she references her work with those in the criminal legal system under supervision during the pandemic. https://t.co/OaevMRwlQ0 @_graced4this#BlueHens#Disaster#DRC60 (2/3)
Bill Anderson talks were 🔥. We heard stories of rural needs & strengths, inclusion of people with disabilities, daily experiences of communities of color during disaster, & about groups supporting LT recovery. Excited to learn more about these researchers’ work! #HazWS
I met many homeless people in Grants Pass—with jobs that didn’t add up to rent, with disabilities or such trauma they couldn’t work. I know the faces of the people the Supreme Court just said should be in jail for sleeping outside. Now every city can do the same.
Sitting is not a crime.
Resting is not a crime.
Sleeping is not a crime.
Camping is not a crime.
Being poor is not a crime.
Needing help is not a crime.
Homelessness is not a crime, it’s a policy failure.
This ruling is deplorable. This country systemically creates poverty & suffering, then punishes people for it. Fines and incarceration for folks already experiencing criminalization & vulnerability? Alas, onward to a more expansive carceral state. @NYTimes https://t.co/kIzBhZ5xpI
I’ve been thinking of folks who are incarcerated this week in record-breaking heat. Most facilities don’t have air conditioning, let alone working fans. Temps can be several degrees hotter inside these antiquated buildings. People are literally roasting. @fema take action.
BREAKING: We w/@AFLCIO@NationalNurses@SEIU@sunrisemvmt @CPDAction legally petitioned @fema to treat extreme heat & wildfire smoke as major disasters to unlock critical funds to save workers & impacted communities.

Br Malcolm X would have been 99 today. He was assassinated at only 39. His wisdom on “progress” is evergreen.✊🏽
“If you stick a knife 9 inches in & take it out 6—that’s not progress. Progress is healing the wound. They wont even admit the knife is there.”
