I genuinely can't believe it's taken me this long to finally switch, the past week has been bliss, it's only coming back to windows for 10 minutes that has made me realise just how awful Microsoft has made this OS over the past few years.

Finally moved over to using Linux instead of windows since aside from like 1 game I can play everything on Linux now and all my cyber security work has me using Linux anyway.

Remarkably smooth transition, no issues that weren't fixed with ease.

After a week I boot back into windows to grab a few files I need and and everything feels horrifically slow, the files don't want to copy to my external drive, the copy task doesn't want to cancel, when it does cancel it takes explorer.exe with it and hard crashes my pc.

it's very simple:

high trust high empathy worldview creates the best possible civilization.

but it has a boundary condition: it only works when you are surrounded by high trust, high empathy people, the kinds of people who have thoughts like "what if everyone did what i am doing?" and "am i bothering/intruding upon/harming others?" and seeks to avoid doing so. people who bring back the shopping cart.

if you uphold that boundary, you get thriving and flourishing human civilization like no other.

but, if you surround with low trust takers and predators, the people who not only do not return the shopping cart but steal it, the ones who do not ask if they are in your way or hurt you or take your things and would not care if you said they did, the great cooperative asset becomes an endlessly exploited weakness and you get eaten alive.

it's not compatible. western civilization is the repeated non-defection in a vast multi sided prisoner's dilemma. as soon as you introuduce even a modest number of people who always defect, everyone has to live at the low equilibrium.

there is no "middle way." they people who are not like that do not want to be like that. they will not change if you just explain it again and be nicer. they just take more because they think you are a pushover.
