(1) Starting pay as a newly commissioned 2nd Lieutenant? Less than ₦180k/month (after tax & deductions, you’ll see ~₦140-150k). Your cousin driving Bolt on weekends is clearing more. A corper in Lagos is almost making same with you.

(2) You’ll be posted to Sambisa or Zamfara forest with equipment from 1960. Bullet proof vest? You’ll share one per section. Your mates in tech are buying land in Epe, you’ll be praying the next ambush isn’t yours.

(3) 5 years of no girlfriend (they ban relationships in Kaduna), no beards, no phone for months, 4am drills, senior officers treating you like trash… Then you pass out and they post you to Maiduguri to go and be collecting ₦1,500 “welfare” while risking your life daily.

If you can push that same energy into tech, Canada/US visa, in 5 years you’ll be living the life these generals only dream of.

The military is a trap for brilliant poor boys.
