Personally don't think this is something to be proud of. A few years ago, I interview a Los Angeles woman who made these types of dresses. She got paid 15 cents per dress and slept in the corner of a kitchen. When you get these "deals," consider who else is paying.
@CoraCHarrington And it’s so hard to convey to people not in cultural heritage spaces how expensive & involved all of this work is! I work w historic maps and am constantly explaining to people how expensive & labor-intensive digitization is, for instance, & it’s just one small part of the work!
please get a library card even if you won’t use it because cities will look at library statistics and use that to decide to keep libraries open and properly funded
The most successful thing capitalism ever did was make labor invisible. Just consume, it doesn’t matter how it got here. It doesn’t matter who made it or the communities that are suffering from just being near the factories. You deserve a little treat!
Imagine being at a university like Harvard or Oxford and using AI to think and write. The whole world is unpaywalled to you. The world's most beautiful and well stocked libraries are open to you. What a waste.
