Costa Rica, once home to rampant logging, has now almost doubled the size of its rainforest. They turned it all around within a generation. It can be done.

When maximum sentence for chaining yourself to railings is over twice maximum sentence for racially aggravated assault, all who care about justice should be appalled. This is a dangerous, undemocratic & disproportionate attack on right to peaceful protest @DefendourJuries
On behalf of newts and bats we shall fight them in the countryside , we shall fight them in the ponds and marshes , we shall fight in the belfry’s , we shall fight them in the caves . We will never surrender our wildlife . . .

1/3. A M O C are the four most important letters in my life - in your life reading this - in everyone's living on this planet. Even if we truly understood even a little of what is at stake, we would be spending days unable to speak - traumatised by horror and terror.
And then we would know what we are going to be doing for rest of our lives.
Doing what it takes to stop this from happening.

"Consequences: Modelling by Prof. Peter Ditlevsen of the University of Copenhagen shows that AMOC slowdown would cool London by an average of 10°C and Bergen, Norway by 15°C. A breakdown of this system could plunge the UK and large parts of the Northern Hemisphere into a new ice age ... "
Global food and water security crisis: Ditlevsen and his co-authors conclude that a collapse of the AMOC heat-transporting circulation would be a going-out-of-business scenario for European agriculture: “You cannot adapt to this”.
In addition, writes Prof. Tim Lenton, the director of the Global Systems Institute at the University of Exeter, the monsoons that typically deliver rain to West Africa and South Asia would become unreliable, and huge swathes of Europe and Russia would be devastated by drought. As much as half of the world’s viable area for growing corn and wheat could dry out. He says that “in simple terms [it] would be a combined food and water security crisis on a global scale.”"
NASA scientist @ClimateHuman :
‘THIS IS ONLY THE BEGINNING…
These disasters will get much much worse…
It’s going to be a nightmare that we can barely imagine… impacts to our food system… heat waves that kill millions of people in a matter of a few days…’ #LosAngelesFire

Today in the King’s speech the priorities were outlined for this parliamentary term – nature was not mentioned once .
We need this new government to commit to restoring nature in their first 100 days in office , get involved at https://t.co/4Mc5c5F8hC
@Keir_Starmer@YvetteCooperMP Please work to change this. Esp. in a country with overcrowded prisons it makes no sense to lock up people publicizing the coming effects of climate change & raising awareness on the all too destructive power of fossil fuels. https://t.co/mPokI4s8Xx
@ShabanaMahmood@Ed_Miliband@Keir_Starmer
On 5 July I breathed a sigh of relief, hoping the years of dismay at the political travesty paralyzing my country were at an end. Please do much more on the climate & the draconian protest laws. https://t.co/mPokI4s8Xx
@Dylan_Difford This is interesting, but voters would have voted differently in an actual PR system. In this election, many people voted Libdem tactically in seats that Labour couldn't win. The Green vote would also be higher under PR as people would know a Green vote was not wasted.
@DavidLammy I know it's not your brief, but:
"The UK has failed to ban 36 pesticides that are not allowed for use in the EU"
A new foreign policy with the EU could allow more scientific collaboration on the effects of pesticides, & renew UK environment
https://t.co/YWDcfRwFY1
@Keir_Starmer Please make this happen and please make it a number one priority so that the UK does not completely lose its insect population to pesticides (60% gone already since 2004)

@SteveReedMP Please make this happen and please make it a number one priority so that the UK does not completely lose its insect population to pesticides (60% gone already since 2004)

@Ed_Miliband Please make this happen and please make it a number 1 priority before the UK loses its insect population completely to pesticides.

An orchard the size of 140 football pitches in Monmouthshire has been cut down by the UK’s biggest cider company, sparking concerns about the impact on birds
Heineken blamed a surplus of apples and slower demand for cider and said it acted in accordance with the Wildlife Act
@Heineken_UK#BoycottHeineken for Ecocide. Apple trees are a key tree in insect ecosystems & take years to grow. Heineken just chopped 300 acres of them down to make money.

@DrProudman@barstandards Thank you for working to address ongoing patriarchal power. It is still, literally, a fearful thing for women. While many things have changed, the UK in particular seems incapable of changing older/archaic social & political structures, which hold it back in so many ways.
'Today BBC news leads with the story that the world has breached 1.5°C warming for the past 12 months..
At a time when we must be ramping up all forms of green investment to keep this planet habitable for future generations ... our politicians continue to fail.'
