The Karmelo Anthony verdict shows that the justice system has reverted back to the Jim Crow South era.
It is no longer about evidence.
It is no longer about right or wrong.
It is about keeping racial score through the prosecution and imprisonment of Black people.
It was no surprise that an all white jury would find a 19 year old kid, who was bullied and harassed by two 6’1” bullies, guilty of murder while he was minding his business.
We have seen this story before.
A young Black man is put on trial, and somehow the burden shifts from what happened to him, to why he should not have defended himself.
The facts become secondary.
The optics become everything.
The outcome feels predetermined long before the verdict is read.
People will tell you not to make it about race.
But race has always been part of the story in America.
The hard truth is that many Black people no longer believe they will receive the benefit of the doubt when their freedom is on the line.
And verdicts like this are exactly why.
At some point, we have to stop pretending that everyone is playing by the same set of rules.
Because the people watching this case saw something very different than what that jury claimed to see.
@taylorboyz243@omw2wildn@NBAMemes You could say he’s first ballot HOFer, 3x Olympic champ & arguably one of the greatest Olympic hoopers, Top 75, and top 10 scorer when he retired 🤷🏾♂️
If Black voters and Black voices aren’t considered meaningful enough to fairly represent the South, then maybe we should reconsider representing the South on the football field and basketball court too.
.@SEC , don’t stay silent in the face of Jim Crow 2.0. Because once you open Pandora’s box, all kinds of things come out of it.
Or maybe it’s just time for our children and these young brothers and sisters to find new playing fields that actually respect their humanity, their voices, and their value.
@GavinNewsom@GovPritzker@SpanbergerForVA@iamwesmoore@JoshShapiroPA@GovWhitmer I’m sure y’all can find some scholarship $ for these talented young folks right?!
Black people hear me…
There is a national obsession with harming, disrespecting, diminishing, and emasculating Black people.
The fixation is no longer subtle.
I do not care to understand the hatred anymore because at this point it’s undeniable.
They’re infatuated with breaking Black confidence, Black unity, Black masculinity, Black femininity, Black success, Black identity and honestly Black existence.
And if this doesn’t make you stand up, lock in, unify, and fight for our future, then nothing will.
“If you aren’t careful, the newspapers will have you hating the people who are being oppressed, and loving the people who are doing the oppressing.”
