ЁЯФ╗President of India ЁЯФ╗
Avul Pakir Jainulabdeen Abdul Kalam, also known as APJ Abdul Kalam, was a renowned Indian aerospace scientist and statesman who served as the 11th President of India from 2002 to 2007.┬╣ Born on October 15, 1931, in Rameswaram, Tamil Nadu, Kalam grew up in a poor Muslim family and had to sell newspapers to support his family's income.
Kalam's academic journey began at Schwartz Higher Secondary School, Ramanathapuram, and later he graduated in physics from St. Joseph's College, Tiruchirappalli, in 1954. He then moved to Madras to study aerospace engineering at the Madras Institute of Technology.
Kalam's illustrious career spanned over four decades, during which he worked as a scientist and science administrator at various organizations, including the Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) and the Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO). He played a crucial role in the development of India's civilian space program and military missile development efforts, earning him the nickname "Missile Man of India".
Some of his notable achievements include:
- *Development of Ballistic Missiles*: Kalam directed two projects, Project Devil and Project Valiant, which aimed to develop ballistic missiles from the technology of the successful SLV program.
- *Pokhran-II Nuclear Tests*: Kalam played an intensive political and technological role in the Pokhran-II nuclear tests in 1998.
- *Low-Cost Coronary Stent*: In 1998, Kalam, along with cardiologist Soma Raju, developed a low-cost coronary stent, named the "Kalam-Raju Stent".
Kalam's presidency was marked by his commitment to education and healthcare. He was known for his simplicity and humility, earning him the nickname "People's President". After completing his term as President, Kalam returned to his civilian life, focusing on education, writing, and public service. He passed away on July 27, 2015, at the age of 83.
