Zohran Mamdani spoke at a Rikers Island graduation ceremony honoring 57 incarcerated people who earned their high school diplomas.
One graduate, Elijah Smith, said he didn’t expect the mayor to show up, but his presence meant something: “It helped. Someone cares about the incarcerated individuals in this jail.”
Sometimes dignity starts with simply showing up.
Confirmation bias and an over emphasis on anecdotal evidence are two huge factors for the spread of misinformation. If people ignore data for something as simple as dating patterns, imagine those implications for a topic more layered like poverty/crime, or policy impact.
they mean young and/or educated Black American men. i never see a college age Black couple unless maybe the girl is mixed. like i’ve literally never seen it irl. college age and younger, not many Black couples. in the hood it’s probably different. Africans are different too
This man managed to restrain himself from shooting a charging pit bull and yet somehow a trained cop dropped multiple rounds into a labradoodle. The police are so pathetic.
3. What works for some won’t work for others and the best part is, there’s a lot of people on all sides. Don’t yuck my yum OR assume someone is being dishonest because they actually aren’t like you.
Considering the “celebrity crush” topic often leads to conversations about hall passes, going up on stages, and defending the celebrity’s real life actions because of the level of investment… yea
I think this whole discourse can be summed up as “people are different”
Does this mean that having a celebrity crush requires extra attention and effort and we have been lying the whole time we said it’s nothing? And would that make having a celebrity crush while in a relationship tantamount to cheating since it signals poor ‘energetic boundaries’?
1. There’s an assumption of a type of monogamy and relationship in general by most. Some people don’t abide by that so having real crushes is much more normal.
2. Some peoples brains are quite literally different. They develop connection much easier and freely.
I think the word “love” was doing major work in the first tweet in terms of setting the stage. Not including it in favor of “crushes” and “attraction” changes the meaning of the post.
Not to be funny & I have no dog in this fight/debate but I’m seeing a lot of Wizards fans talk very assertively about what they are and aren’t willing to do for the #1 pick.
The owners/GMs might even have a premade deal already and it’s likely to disappoint.
@nourician Interesting conversation. Seems like a bunch of arguing on “both” sides which is par for the course on here. Only thing I’d say is if you believe only 30-40% of your assigned readings are useful then your program is bad or there’s a lack of understanding of the purpose of variety
For example, to reduce the problem down to “they rather have BW in middle management” greatly shrinks the scale and complexity of the issue. Seems it was just a jab.
If I told you because Black boys are pipelined out of AP classes towards sports teams, or straight up neglected academically in preference of Black girls so that they can become middle managers of Black men as adults you might think it’s crazy but that’s exactly the process.
I rarely touch this discussion because it’s ripe with a lot of BM and BW who dislike/hate each other. But I think one of the most clear examples of how obvious it is that there aren’t enough BM in academia is how much data there is that complicates this point yet no one knows it
@WES_WorldOrder Why are none of yall factoring in personal accountability? black boys are given the same opportunities as the girls are, even MORE because of their relation to sports, which builds a network for them over time. At some point you have to look inward & stop blaming others
The Bible spends far more time on poverty, greed, and personal conduct than it does on homosexuality. Yet some people center everything on that one topic because punching down on marginalized people doesn't take courage. It's actually cowardice.
