However, this is not just about pay. Nurses face lack of support in mental health and general wellbeing. A 2020 report from @somceo found ‘Nurses and midwives are at considerable risk of work- related stress, burnout and mental health problems such as depression and anxiety’.

Nurses were on strike again today as they face minimal support in all areas from the Tory government. With inflation ever increasing, nurses need a pay rise that supports the current cost of living. #nursestrike #NHSWorkersNeedAPayrise

NHS staff in England and Wales have been given just a 4.75% increase in pay. The RCN (Royal College of Nursing) says this is not enough, and ask for the RPI (A measure of changing prices) + 5%. So they are calling for a pay rise close to 19%.

Finally, @oivshina summarised the talk with psychological issues war correspondents deal with. An often overlooked factor of wartime journalism, is the process of reintegrating back into society. Ivshina made it clear that seeking help upon returning home is a must.

International journalism week returns for another year, this years theme being ‘Journalism in Times of Conflict and Tension’. On day 3 @sheffielduni welcomed guest speaker @oivshina, a @BBC war correspondent. She discussed operating and reporting safely in war zones . #ijw2022

One notable point of discussion was the challenges women face as war correspondents. Ivshina highlighted that women may face further challenges and stress, as well as the combat, in a war zone. This may vary from harassment to targeted assaults.
