Thank you all. The station is going dark for now. Maybe when things are looking better, we'll be able to turn the lights on again and be able to keep working toward bringing everyone a safe, fun and exciting place to be entertained. Until then, signing off. - Isolation Station
@ovenotter Everything was discussed when it seemed a slam-dunk that it would be signed into law. If it ends up not, we'll revisit it.
Thank you for your support! <3
Dear Isolation Station fans,
We thank you for your continued support during this unprecedented year. We hope that we have been able to bring you all something special if only for a short time.
@Jinxthelynx Hell, at this point we don't even know. Dude didn't actually, yknow, sign the bill into law, so we're just kinda chilling right now. If this gets signed into law, then we're 100% done. If not, we'll reconsider shutting down.
We shouldn't look upon this as a sad time. Many of us gained a lot of new experience from this project, and we made a lot of friends along the way. It helped us through some dark days.
The Icecast backend never crashed or needed to be restarted for performance or stability reasons. In fact, at the time of decommissioning, it'd been running continuously since a show in July.
As a reminder of happier times, how about some stats from when Raks was decommissioning the backend?
At peak, the backend served 1,303 simultaneous streams across 5 relays.
During the initial 24 hour livestream, there were no ingest losses.
During the initial 24 hour livestream, there were fewer than 800 packet transmit errors - that means almost every viewer had a smooth experience!
The peak data rate served by the primary relay was almost 690 Mbps, which was sustained for 44 minutes.
Thank you all for sticking with us, we have greatly enjoyed bringing these shows to you and hope that our efforts have made these difficult times a little more enjoyable. We will hopefully see you all in the future.
That being said, we feel that it is clear that the station will be unable to reopen any time in the near future and are being forced to cancel all future virtual streaming events for the foreseeable future.
So that COVID stimulus bill? The one with the rider to make illegal streaming a felony?
Yeah, it's going to impact the project. More later today, I've only got a few minutes before work and haven't gotten together with the rest of the team to write a statement.
@spectrumfox Basically the stakes have changed. The risk vs. reward vs. consequences have tipped into the range of unacceptable for us and our partners.
