Alberta UCP MLA Shane Getson has officially resigned his seat.
(Much speculation about who it was that resigned, and Getson was high — but not too high — on my list.)
Under the Legislative Assembly Act it says a byelection does not need to be called if the assembly is in its last year. The next provincial election will be on (or before) Oct. 18, 2027.
First Nations leaders gathered for ceremonies ahead of a historic meeting Monday with some premiers and Prime Minister Mark Carney, while grassroots activists planned their strategy to protest the meeting while heavily invoking the Idle No More movement.

“Sat down with Mayor Jeromy Farkas to refocus the relationship between the province and Calgary.”
Notable phrasing here — I know for a fact some around the premier weren’t too pleased with the mayor’s speech at the Lukaszuk/Carney rally last week.
A packed last 24 hours across Calgary.
Attended the launch of the Alberta Business Alliance, a new voice bringing industries and entrepreneurs together to help keep Alberta the most competitive place in Canada to do business.
Sat down with Mayor Jeromy Farkas @JeromyYYC to refocus the relationship between the province and Calgary. And for the record, Calgary got it right by pressing pause on blanket rezoning and listening to its residents first.
Finished tonight with the CEOs at the Business Council of Alberta @BizCouncilAB, talking about what comes next. Alberta is leading the country in economic growth, job creation and housing starts, and the largest pipeline buildout in decades is underway. The job now is to keep that momentum going.
About 2.5 hours till Elections Alberta is ‘legally required’ to finish counting the referendum ballots — they’re super close!
As of tweeting Premier Smith is winning on 6/9 other questions, but the yes side on abolishing the senate has a lead of barely 1k votes.
Smith says the UCP must be focused on winning 2027 election and that endless internal debates over separatism will lead to a loss.
Oh, and Mitch Sylvestre says he’ll keep doing what he’s doing.

Alberta Premier Smith told UCP separatists to toe the pro-Canada line or find a new party today
Smith’s office is adamant this only applies to those seeking board positions/candidacy/other party roles — but judging by online reactions, some party members feel targeted too.

I hope every UCP member and supporter will watch this video.
The referendum is behind us. Albertans gave their answers and our party must honour that mandate.
What comes next is the only fight that matters, and it is twelve months away.
Naheed Nenshi's NDP have told us exactly what they will do with power:
🟠 Reopen the drug consumption sites we closed
🟠 Let minors undergo irreversible gender surgeries without their parents' knowledge.
🟠 Shut down school choice.
🟠 Bring back the production cap and the net zero regulations to phase out our energy sector.
🟠 Open border immigration.
🟠 A carbon tax.
🟠 And Avi Lewis in Ottawa pulling Nenshi’s strings.
United, our party will win. Divided the NDP wins and all Albertas would suffer as a result.
The time for division is over.
The time to unite and fight for a stronger Alberta and Canada is now.
Updated after the premier’s address:
Alberta's Smith said Tuesday that separation is now a dead issue, and that the province’s issues with Ottawa will in the future be settled through regular politicking or court action.

Here's some of the cross-country reaction Wednesday from premiers and federal leaders on Albertans voting to stay in Canada:

As of 4:30 this afternoon the 'yes' vote is leading on 8 of the other 9 referendum questions Premier Smith has put to Albertans.
89% of polls have reported, and Elections Alberta says it's on track to meet Wednesday's counting deadline. https://t.co/lO5Ya8zAID via @CdnPressNews
