Getting my O-1 🇺🇸 Visa as a high-school dropout was challenging to say the least. To meet one of the multiple criteria I wrote a book on everything I'd learned about Node.js and server-side JS.

I subtitled it "JavaScript Everywhere" because when Node (and shortly before it, the APE Project, a server-side Spidermonkey runtime) came out, the idea of JS being able to run in all environments captivated me.

If you click around https://t.co/qD5NqrIpq5 you'll notice it's pretty fast, or blazing fast if you will. This required JS running at build time on the server, but also on the browser itself. @nextjs, combining the "best of both worlds" of Node.js on the server and React's powerful runtime on the client, enables this magic. I'm very thankful for these technologies.

JS these days is truly everywhere, beyond what I anticipated. It renders on-demand on the server to deliver the most personalized sites. It can run asynchronously with ISR to update content that needs to be delivered efficiently. It's the lingua franca at the Edge to direct traffic via middleware.

JavaScript and TypeScript are the most accessible way to build. I'm very excited to continue enabling the next generation of developers building fast, dynamic, and AI-powered apps on these foundations.
