The things modern Christians are often ashamed of affirm our current priorities.
We are ashamed of failing exams, being broke, and generally missing out on societal success.
We hardly get ashamed about misrepresenting Jesus or our inability to be useful to God's kingdom.
Or perhaps we believe that we can't represent Jesus without societal success, and we can't be useful to God's kingdom until the world rates us very highly.
I'm not even sure which one is the greater calamity.
I go de quote bible, you go de throw tantrum in the name of logic say one thing na christology wey be soteriology.
Make I use una illogic sef. So, tell me, why una de vex say we de call Christians to purity, Christians o? If grace plenty for your side, why you no wan show receipts? Holy living na one sure proof of grace (Titus 2:11,12), but, once we say make you no de practice sin, especially sexual immorality, and especially if you wan be pulpit minister, una go de vex.
If no be fake grace wey una de advertise, why una no like make we shout about holiness sef? Grace wey de allergic to righteous living na the grace of our Lord Jesus Christ be dat?
I have witnessed this club go from doubters to believers, and from believers to champions. It took hard work and I always did everything I could to help the club get there. Nothing makes me prouder than that.
Us crumbling to yet another defeat this season was very painful and not what our fans deserve. I want to see Liverpool go back to being the heavy metal attacking team that opponents fear and back to being a team that wins trophies. That is the football I know how to play and that is the identity that needs to be recovered and kept for good. It cannot be negotiable and everyone that joins this club should adapt to it.
Winning some games here and there is not what Liverpool should be about. All teams win games.
Liverpool will always be a club that means a great deal to me and to my family. I want to see it succeed for long after I have moved on.
As I’ve always said, qualifying to next season’s Champions League is the bare minimum and I will do everything I can to make that happen.
If you are going to interpret all of scripture through the earthly ministry of Jesus Christ, then you need to be willing to follow that logic all the way to its conclusion. Because if the standard is “we did not see Jesus do it during his earthly ministry, therefore God does not do it,” then you have a serious problem on your hands.
We did not see Jesus sit on any governmental throne while he walked this earth. He did not rule as a king over any nation. He did not command any army or exercise political authority over any empire. So by your logic, God is not the ruler of the universe. Is that what you believe? Because that is where your argument leads.
We did not see Jesus father any children. He did not procreate. He was not the biological source of any human life during his time on earth. So by your logic, God is not Father. That title means nothing. Is that what you are prepared to say?
We did not see Jesus create a single planet, a single tree, a single leaf, or a single human being from scratch during his earthly ministry. Not one act of original creation is recorded. So by your logic, Jesus is not the Creator. He is not the source of all things. But wait. That directly contradicts the same scriptures you claim to believe, because Colossians 1 tells you that all things were created through him and for him, and that by him all things consist, right now, continuously. John 1 tells you there was nothing made that was made without him. You cannot have it both ways.
So the argument is not just weak. It is logically self-destroying. The moment you apply it consistently, it dismantles the very Jesus you are trying to defend.
Now let me go further, because this is important. The Bible does not present itself as a collection of isolated proof texts. It presents itself as one continuous story, one unfolding revelation. You cannot lift one portion of that story and use it to contradict the rest. That is not how the authors intended it, and that is not how Jesus himself treated scripture.
And here is the part that should stop you completely. The same authors you are using to build your argument are the same authors who destroy it. You want to quote Luke? Fine. Luke wrote the gospel. Luke also wrote the book of Acts, which comes directly after, as a continuation of the same account. And it is that same Luke, in Acts chapter 5, who tells you that Ananias and Sapphira fell dead, and credits the Holy Spirit, who is God, as the agent of that judgment. So what are you doing with Luke? Do you believe him or not? You cannot take Luke’s account of Jesus and ignore Luke’s account of God’s judgment. That is not exegesis. That is selection.
You want to appeal to the apostolic witness? Then deal with the full apostolic witness. It is Jude, one of his own, who tells us in Jude chapter 1 verse 5 that it was Jesus who delivered the people out of Egypt and afterward destroyed those who did not believe. That is the same Jesus. Credited by an apostle. Killing people. That text exists and you have to deal with it.
It is Matthew, who walked with him, who gives us the gospel of Matthew. Are we going to pretend Matthew did not know who Jesus was? Are we going to pretend that the men who gave their lives for this testimony somehow got the nature of God wrong while you, reading from a distance, have figured it out?
The only way this argument survives is if you are willing to say Luke is unreliable, Jude is unreliable, the apostolic witness is unreliable. But the moment you say that, you have also destroyed the source of everything you know about Jesus. You cannot stand on the gospels while burning down the letters. It is the same foundation. It is the same testimony. It is the same God.
@ThePaulIkezue in your mind you’ve actually said something smart. Well, God does kill His enemies. He has done it before and He’s doing it even now. Guess what, a fate worse than death even awaits His enemies (unrepentant evildoers) eternally.
@segun_Elgrande the problem with this thinking is that you can’t follow it to its logical conclusion. Just as mercy to repentant sinners is good, judgement of “unrepentant” evildoers is also good. God is love and is just. There is no quarrel in the divine attributes.
@AbrahamOlawunmi@timstickdrums brother, if you watched the same video, the pastor unequivocally said “God does not kill”. That’s cosmic slander! Again y’all are worried about the wrong things
Pastor Tolu, whatever Pastor Segun Onayinka was accused of was not merely an accusation.
He has preached some of the most destructive heresies. The video below is an example.
From minute 0:13–0:40, he says God cannot kill or does not kill.
We have had this discussion before here on CT.
Anyone who says God cannot kill or does not kill necessarily ends up holding one or more of the following positions:
That the God of the Old Testament is not the true God.
That He is evil.
That Scripture is not inerrant.
And Pastor Segun Onayinka holds all these positions, as we will see in the video.
From minute 1:58–2:38, he says Jesus, the true God, when He came, hurt no one, killed no one, and made no one sick; therefore, that is the true representation of God.
This is the heresy of Marcion, who taught that the God of the Old Testament was evil and wicked, while Jesus alone is the true God.
But God Himself says He kills and gives life. He is merciful, but He also judges with wrath.
“See now that I, even I, am He, and there is no god beside Me; I kill and I make alive; I wound and I heal; and there is none that can deliver out of My hand.” — Deuteronomy 32:39
And when God revealed Himself to Moses, He declared both His mercy and His justice:
— Exodus 34:6–7
This is God’s self-disclosure about Himself.
However, Marcion created a new canon of Scripture for himself in order to uphold this heresy.
He removed all the Old Testament books and retained only parts of Paul’s writings.
He also removed portions connected to the Jews. That was deeply antisemitic.
That same bitter antisemitism found in Marcion’s heresy appears to have been inherited by Pastor Segun Onayinka, as we will see in the video.
From minute 2:57–3:12, he blatantly rejects that Jesus is the Lion of the Tribe of Judah.
He says one of the twenty-four elders who called Him that was corrected because he was a Jew.
Firstly, Jesus is the Lion.
Secondly, no one corrected the elder.
These elders stand before God’s throne. They are holy beings.
But Pastor Tolu, this man whom you say was merely “accused” blatantly rejected Scripture, which says Jesus is both the Lion and the Lamb.
But did Jesus kill? Of course He did.
He is God. The One who gives life also has the authority to take it.
They say Jesus was never recorded killing anyone in the New Testament.
Well, Jesus did not begin existing in the New Testament. He is eternal.
And Jude records Him killing the entire rebellious generation of Israel:
“Now I want to remind you, although you once fully knew it, that Jesus, who saved a people out of the land of Egypt, afterward destroyed those who did not believe.” — Jude 1:5
Jesus did kill. He can. He is God.
But this is Segun Onayinka.
By the way, this is one of his more tolerable heretical positions. He has said worse.
He believes communion and baptism are not necessary.
He believes Jesus is not coming back, no second coming, that He never left.
Look, if Jesus is not coming back, then there is no resurrection of the dead.
And if there is no resurrection, then we have no hope. As Paul said:
“If the dead are not raised, ‘Let us eat and drink, for tomorrow we die.’” — 1 Corinthians 15:32
Paul even asked:
“What do I gain if, humanly speaking, I fought with beasts at Ephesus? If the dead are not raised, ‘Let us eat and drink, for tomorrow we die.’” — 1 Corinthians 15:32
These kinds of teachings were condemned by the apostles. Paul cursed those who taught it.
All of them.
Peter cursed them so much in 2 Peter that the early church almost didn't add the book to the canon.
This is precisely why Paul left Timothy in Ephesus and Titus in Crete: to silence those who taught such things.
Finally, he held all these views while claiming biblical and theological scholarship that towered above every Nigerian preacher.
He claimed he was part of a Bible translation committee.
He has been asked which one, and till date, there has been no answer.
We want to be moderate. But if the early church heard what he preached, he would have been declared anathema instantly.
Pastor Segun Onayinka, unless he has changed and repented, has preached some of the most dangerous heresies in this nation.
Preachers like him should not be tolerated in the community of the sanctified. He doesn't hold to sound doctrine.
Scripturally, he is unfit to be an overseer.
But you claim he was falsely accused. He wasn't. Pastor Segun Onayinka has preached has not preached the sound gospel of the faith.
And God will put Satan under our feet soon. Amen.
@iamDanielAzu you know the real problem? Someone was trying to whitewash his ministry by saying that PSO was slandered, someone else comes out to say that he wasn’t. Yet you read all that and perhaps watched the video and all you cared about was that spiricoco dishonored the man’s birthday lol
You can’t compare the cost of barbing your hair in uk with barbing your hair in Nigeria. For the simple reason that the minimum wage is not the same in both countries.
Minimum wage in Nigeria is 77,000 naira. That’s about £40. Minimum wage in UK is about £12.71 per hour.
So the person working in uk for 4hours will make MORE money than the person who works 30days in Nigeria- yet both of them are doing the same minimum wage work. So it’s only commonsense that countries where people earn more, basic things will cost more- compared to places where people earn peanuts.
This is why intelligent people compare cost of living relative to income in that country, not relative to cost in a lesser income country.
Sometimes I wonder why government officials deliberately mix sycophancy with insanity. Because there’s no way in the world that Reno Omokri doesn’t know this. He knows it but the evil darkness in his soul will make him deliberately say crap like this.
