@vinceinburque@aslconnect It means “finish,” but more like a “knock it off” sense. My mom used to say it to me when I would act up in the store. She still does it nearly every time I get under her nerves, lol.
@raynedep@DeafHistorian To add, I think complacency is a larger issue. When I become okay with saying I don’t make mistakes, I become prideful. I get snooty. There is no longer a proper forum for discussion. I have to be able to say “oh y’know, that’s on me.” That’s when I learn and reflect.
@raynedep@DeafHistorian Well, semantics aside, we should admit our mistakes. I don’t grow without learning from mine. Mistakes are made. It happens. I have to learn. Arrogance has no place in this field, either. Identification of mistakes is good, but I disagree with saying mistakes aren’t what happen.
@DeafHistorian Gotcha. That makes sense. I misunderstood. I see a lot of times when some interpreters try to absolve themselves of their issues or try to give their clients an unnecessary burden. Sorry about that!
@signingmango I’m not against being called “hearing.” It’s what I am. I just add that I’m a CODA. Growing up I was always “too hearing” to some of my deaf peers and was always “too animated” or “speaking ASL” to be hearing. I don’t like being a standard “hearie” but see my privilege.
Sometimes I put my wallet up to the ‘Tap-to-Pay’ scanner and just see what happens. It’s like Russian roulette; sometimes it’ll decline, sometimes it might overcharge, other times it’s just fine.
@ameliarchaeo I think it looks good! I’m a CODA and ASL interpreter. I love the idea of PIP and showed my mom to see if she understood. She loves it and really only wishes for a bit bigger window of you and more contrasting clothes with your skin!
@aly_ssaz I’m gonna be honest, I didn’t step foot in a Barnes and noble until this last year. Do you pay for the book and then read it or is it a library? Are you allowed to have coffee while reading a book that isn’t yours? So many questions that I don’t know if I want answered. 😂
