U.S. State Department advisories and other reports indicate El Salvador has seen dramatic safety improvements under President Nayib Bukele's anti-gang crackdown, earning a Level 1 "Exercise Normal Precautions" rating, making it officially safer for travelers than Sweden, which remains at Level 2 ("Exercise Increased Caution").
