1: Is sending funeral wreaths part of Korean culture?

In Korea, wreaths are categorized into colorful congratulatory wreaths and yellow-white funeral wreaths. The sole purpose of yellow-white funeral wreaths is for memorial services. This fact is undeniable. Even though there have been instances of sending condolence wreaths in the Korean entertainment industry, this practice is still unacceptable. Moreover, sending them to a company is very different from targeting a young idol with no voice in the matter.

2: Is sending wreaths against Korean law?

Yes, it violates the law. Sending funeral wreaths is interpreted as a death threat, which, when directed at an individual, violates Article 283 of the Korean Criminal Act. The permission mentioned by some does not refer to the approval of sending wreaths, but rather the approval for protest. It is a protest permit, but sending funeral wreaths under the guise of protest is illegal.

Protests should not equate to death threats. Furthermore, OT6 did not even obtain proper protest approval before sending the wreaths. According to Korean law, protests must be registered at least 48 hours in advance. The earliest a protest could have been legally approved was October 14th, which means the entire act of sending these wreaths was illegal. If legal action is taken, the perpetrators could face up to three years in prison and a fine of 5 million KRW.

In China, this behavior is also illegal. Sending funeral wreaths to a living person violates the Personality Rights section of the Civil Code and the Public Security Administration Punishment Law, constituting the crime of insult. Some Chinese OT6 also sent funeral wreaths.

3: Is it acceptable to the Korean public to send funeral wreaths to a living person?

No, it is not. Korea's Dong-A Ilbo reported on the wreath incident, and over 200 comments condemned the act, calling it inhumane, especially towards a young, innocent rookie idol. Many expressed that this behavior has damaged Korea’s national image.

4: Is this just a form of protest, a way to express demands?

Protests can involve sending trucks, holding sit-ins, or sending emails—there are many legitimate ways to express grievances. Using this method, under the guise of "justice," to commit illegal acts is completely unacceptable. Ridiculing, insulting, and violating another person's dignity, reputation, and privacy cannot be justified. What rights do these fans claim to have? They are just fans—what authority do they have to resort to criminal actions?

5: Universal values

Across most cultures, funeral wreaths are universally understood as symbols of mourning. Any excuses or justifications cannot wash away the malice and bullying that this act represents.

Under the banner of "twisted love," this action shows no moral boundaries. The account that organized this wreath incident has since gone private. If this act was supposedly "normal" in Korea, there would be no need to hide. The actions of these OT6 violate social decency, challenge basic civic understanding, and cross the line of moral integrity. This warped fandom behavior is nauseating and should be condemned by everyone.
