After watching the video, my significant take away was that other black baseball players were sought after to join the major leagues before Jackie Robinson but were passed on due to feuds between the Negro league team owners and major league team owners.

The individual that is the topic of my discussion today is Monte Irvin, who became a player on the Newark Eagles after returning from WWII and later on made it into the major leagues playing for the New York Giants.

This piece of baseball history involving Irvin showcases the racism and segregation that were running rampant during the time. When Branch Rickey tried to bring Irvin to the major leagues he knew the other owners would fight it as much as they could.
