We saw it in Turkey. We now saw it in Alberta. Shifting to the right and leaving no progressive option is not the way to fight fascism and far right politics. Period. #AbElection2023
@TheBreakdownAB It’s well known Nenshi is neoliberal. Midfield Park case in point. I never knew about this letter - kind of good someone brought attention to it. He isn’t progressive economically - socially perhaps.
@joelaf Did anyone at all mention co-op housing? It kind of astounds me that density is treated as something separate from other forms of planning. I’m not against the change, just sad it’s not part of a comprehensive plan. We saw what densification does and it isn’t a cure on its own.
@TheTyee Old cons of the past were today’s liberals (Lougheed). Alberta is a victim of what happened with us/can cons in 80s and recent far right wins. We are primed for propaganda we need AB’s image to reflect progressive urban center reality the urban/rural split is immense and severe.
@floragillespie@CWalcottYYC@p_corah@HomeSpaceyyc If there’s any out there that’s affordable I haven’t seen it. This is the crux of the issue for me - absolutely nothing being built at true affordable prices - aka $800 a month for one bed.
Ain’t no war but class war folks when the leader of the supposedly most progressive federal party makes no mention of the people who are not landowners
@AngeeGabs Apparently I can’t because I’m not verified and we aren’t mutuals. Yeah it used to be 815 when I moved in. There may be room to negotiate but I’m not sure.
Wage required to afford a two-bedroom:
Vancouver: $42.60/hr
Toronto: $40.03/hr
Calgary: $29.51/hr
I don't want Calgary to follow the same path Vancouver and Toronto have
We can't afford further delays on housing affordability.

Adding my own bit of context to the residuals + streaming conversation. Storytime:
Through a very strange set of circumstances, I (someone who has never pursued acting professionally) ended up in Pitch Perfect
That’s baby 2011 me in the purple polo lmaoooooo
@hyuumanatees@DrAmyPsyD Yeah for sure ick. It’s just still
mind boggling to me lol like even if married that’s a no. Ridiculous. Anyway I’m not a practicing Catholic anymore for so many reasons.
@hyuumanatees@DrAmyPsyD I went to Catholic school and yeah this seems like the quiet part out loud. Crazy how even a piece of latex is supposedly sinful.
@DrAmyPsyD This is what was taught in Catholic school - but more so oh you’ll learn this when the time comes when you’re married. That was 2005 so not even that long ago. Needless to say there was at least one teen pregnancy I remember. Can’t believe even condoms were not promoted.
@CWalcottYYC@jamierosscgy Thanks for sharing. I was more so referring to the news article - I just find it interesting what’s emphasized over other changes and initiatives. I’ve found in marda loop many affordable apartments are totally gone now and on their way out with no requirements for cheaper option
@jamierosscgy@CWalcottYYC I have seen so much infill and condo construction in the inner city, so this article seems a bit out of touch with what’s happening on the ground. What we need is housing co-ops, not private housing, however I rarely see it mentioned.
“Interest rate hikes are causing inflation, therefore we need more interest rate hikes,” Macdonald said. - BoC hikes will go down as worst economic policy in history of Canada crushing renters and people unable to afford extra costs.
ICYMI, @ccpa senior economist @DavidMacCdn disagrees with this week's BoC rate hike: "The Bank is going to need hundreds of thousands of people to lose their jobs before they get what they see as a slackening of the labour market." #canlab https://t.co/Ta4ksrZrRX.
Someone explain to me why #interestrate goes up based on 50k or so retail and construction net jobs this month in Ontario. Like nothing screams an overheated job market like working at Walmart in Toronto and not affording rent. #abpoli#Canada
Got hung up on by a supposed @RogersHelps rep that wanted to migrate my shaw # because I wouldn’t give two pieces of ID over the phone. How do I know it is legit when scammers can fake caller ID? If it’s real it’s extremely poor service and we shouldn’t be credit checked. #yyc
