@DrBradJohnson I'll say when i first started #teaching, i felt I was paid reasonably well for my benefits. Over time, however, my similarly aged peers salaries grew much higher than mine. My skills and what I offered to my educational community grew but my salary did not grow commensurately.

@DrMrsKellyHogan I've had it write exam questions for my French class and for my Earth science class. I've also had it write student exemplars. The questions and text usually take editing, but definitely incredibly useful!

#Teachers giving zeros on assignments exacerbates the issues that likely caused the lack of work. A zero makes it almost impossible for a students average to rebound. It is incredibly demotivating, and makes it more likely a #student gives up. #nogrades #nozeros #justlearning

From a #student perspective, lack of work (and thus a zero on an assignment) happens because of lack of understanding, absences, anxiety, overwhelm, difficult family circumstances, health issues, etc. Zeros penalize #students for issues often fully out of student control.#nozeros

The hard part about scaling back grades is #students exist in a system where they view grades as a currency rather than a measure of #learning. It's hard to change students' systemic expectations. #Schools should move to a #nogrades only #feedback system.

@SmittyIowa @DrBradJohnson Do you want "high math scores" or high math proficiency? One does not necessarily mean the other. The are versions of #education systems that prepare #students well for the skills and content they need without over testing them. The measurement simply isn't s standardized test.

As a science #teacher, I envy those who have space in their curriculum to do such important relationship-building with with their #students. I have to find the space for this in interstitial moments and in #restorativecircles.

@KatherinePrange @DrBradJohnson I agree with @bethroessler. Formative #assessment has its place to inform #teacher instruction and student learning, but the extreme focus on standardized tests is just a way for a teacher/school system to justify their standing. It doesn't serve students'educational needs.

@teacher2teacher My favorite connection question to ask #students is "Are you a dolphin or a whale? Why?" It's my first #restorativecircle question of the year. Students think it's really weird at first but they remember what they chose for years! #teacherlife #Teachers #teachersoftwitter
