These doctors allowed themselves to be manipulated, and that was how the crisis at OAUTHC began. Things operated in a deeply dehumanising manner until the situation escalated into a national outcry. One would have expected the New Federal Centre to learn from OAUTHC’s mistakes. Instead, management chose to copy the very practices that favoured them, and I am already seeing the same dangerous pattern repeating itself.
It is unfortunate that history is being repeated. I hope that when a patient eventually dies because a doctor on call abandoned duty to go look for food, the Association of Resident Doctors (ARD) of that centre will still be able to defend those involved.

By contrast, at the Federal Teaching Hospital Gombe (FTH Gombe), they give you meal tickets which you can use to eat at the hospital eatery or even outside with vendors like Madam-Do-Good.
You are issued 10 tickets on weekdays and 30 tickets on weekends. This applies across the board, including to consultants. As corps members, we would collect tickets from Senior Registrars (SRs) and consultants. Remarkably, the tickets remain valid for the whole week (up to 5 days), and they are never rejected even if the date has passed.

There is clearly something deeply wrong with the Southern part of Nigeria. When it comes to the abuse and mistreatment of human beings, especially in institutions that are supposed to care for people, the South unfortunately leads with distinction in these evil practices.
