@EdKrassen If we can be okay with the existence of DC and Marvel movies (often very inappropriate) we can be okay with the existence of the Barbie movie- regardless of each parent’s feelings on how appropriate it is for their young child who may have wanted to see it.
@ritacricks@plisken1@mhdksafa I think this poster was trying to make an unfortunate but very real and true criticism of the capitalistic world we live in. Robert deserves a raise but probably gets flack for not being as “productive” as he should be. We need to support Robert and all the “Roberts” out there.
I had a breakthrough on my article lying in bed this morning.
A global scale of politics makes us feel scared, cagey, and want to destroy things.
A human scale - a neighborhood, a family, a garden - makes us want to create and steward and protect.
“This is what happens when the sight of the distressed becomes so common that it is both fearsome and exhausting; we look the other way, mutter about crime and quality of life, and ignore the fact that we as a society are taking the cheap, easy way out…” — @errollouis
Here’s the police body cam video showing what happened when a @Hertz worker at the New Orleans airport called police because a Puerto Rican man kept insisting that his drivers license was valid. The Hertz worker denied the man his pre paid rental car because he couldn’t present his passport. The Hertz worker thought Puerto Rico was another country and so she insisted the man needed to show a passport. He didn’t. He is a U.S. citizen as are all Puerto Ricans.
This body cam video was first obtained by @FOX8NOLA.
You can judge for yourself the unidentified @KennerPolice officers demeanor / behavior. Marchand found it to be extremely rude and demeaning.
As for the Hertz worker, she seen on video saying to the customer, Humberto Marchand:
“Because you recorded as you’re not gonna be able to rent from Hertz ever!”
That’s not true. Hertz has already apologized to Mr. Marchand publicly and stated that the employees were wrong and will be retained.
It is clear that neither the officer, nor the Hertz employee, know that Marchand is right: his driver’s license is as valid as any other license issued in any other state. He didn’t need to show a passport to anyone. The officer could’ve provided clarity to the situation based on the fact that Puerto Rico is not a foreign country. He did not or was unaware of that fact.
In my initial report, I stated that Marchand heard the officer say that he would call border authorities. The body cam video does not show that.
As @FOX8NOLA’s @news_fuentes reported, the officer said: “Do not come back up here and cause any more disturbances.”
In the body camera video, Marchand asks, “You’re going to call what? Border services?”
You can’t go to work, to the MALL, to the grocery store, to your church, to the movies or the bank.
You can’t attend a concert, go to a dance class or go to see your doctor. You can’t ring a doorbell, use a leaf blower, hop in a car, pull down a driveway, bounce a ball, or ask the neighbor to keep it down.
You can’t check out a farmer’s market or mail something at the post office or go to a parade, and you certainly can’t send your kids to school without worrying that someone will get shot.
That someone you LOVE will get shot.
Or that YOU will get shot.
This is where we are now.
This is not normal.
And this is not fucking ok.
It’s NOT fucking ok.
A 16 year old was shot for ringing the wrong doorbell.
A 20 year old was shot and killed for driving down the wrong driveway.
An 18 year old is in critical condition for trying to get into the wrong car.
And a 6 year old and her dad were shot because her basketball rolled onto the wrong lawn.
In a nation armed to the teeth & perpetually primed for war, these tragedies are only going to happen more often, not less.
What the hell are we doing?
@nickymidnite@LeeLibertas Way to stare straight at the point and watch it fly over your head.
This is the situation people are living in. This is the average experience- If not worse.
@numbersdelight@luazurit@PayGapApp How does it not?
It’s a sign of one or both:
1. equal representation of men and women in diff levels of the organization but women are being paid less
2. unequal opportunities for men and women- women only getting lower pay opportunities and not getting promotions
@wizzair Y u trying to hide yourself Wizz Air? You know it’s fruitless. Your inequality will follow you :)
Maybe take those flowers and turn them into a raise.
