There really does seem to be a weirdly anti-theoretical outlook shared by the critical theory crowd and the anti-formal methods crowd, functioning in both as an appendage to their respective pessimistic views of the different forms of intellectual labor they're concerned with.

There's a tendency to (wrongly imo) write off Marx's theological digressions as cute, incisive jabs which are theoretically opaque and therefore unimportant. This is hardly an original observation, but it seems like such an obvious mistake that it bears repeating.

@BichlerNitzan Being an social agregate of measurable physical quantities, SNALT is possible to directly measure in theory, though there's likely no practical way of doing so. I'll concede that utils are probably not directly measurable even in theory.
