On Tuesday night, Dr. Adam Hamawy officially became the Democratic nominee for New Jersey's 12th Congressional District. A decorated former U.S. Army combat trauma surgeon, he famously refused to evacuate Gaza in May 2024 until a replacement team of incoming doctors could safely enter to take over patient care.

Drop Site's @JulianAndreone spoke with Hamawy right after his win to talk about how Gaza inspired him to enter the race — and what his victory means.

Sometimes, you don’t hate the bias of the editors at the New York Times enough.

The reporters rightly relegated this guilt-by-association cleric stuff to the 9th paragraph of their piece but the editor made sure it in was the dek of the piece itself on this historic night - above any mention of him treating 9/11 victims, saving Tammy Duckworth’s life, or volunteering to save lives in Gaza.

【英国警方中文翻译羞辱中国异见人士】据《卫报》报道，曾于去年在重庆大学城远程投射反共标语的中国异见人士戚洪因其银行账户遭中国官方冻结、面临流落街头的困境，在英国向当地警方拨号求助。然而，警方为其配备的普通话翻译不仅拒绝准确传达其求助内容，反而对其进行政治羞辱和质问：“中国这么好，你为什么要出来？”并声称“我不会翻译你的情绪”。

此次事件再次撕开了海外主权国家在应对中共跨境镇压与隐蔽渗透时的防御缺口：
涉事警局（德文郡和康沃尔郡警方）以该翻译属于“第三方外包商员工”为由拒绝采取进一步行动，暴露出警方在关键公共服务供应链审查上的脱节。

英国官方今年2月解密的一份报告明确警告，中共统战部（UFWD）和有组织犯罪集团正在协同渗透英国的中文翻译社群。英国警方内部普通话人才极度匮乏，甚至在办案时不得不依赖谷歌翻译，导致其面对此类针对异见人士的隐蔽恐吓时毫无防备。

此前已有庭审披露，由于普通话翻译严重短缺，导致多名涉嫌为中国从事间谍活动的嫌疑人在法定羁押期满前无法完成数码设备资料的翻译，最终被释放并得以离开英国。

语言本应是寻求庇护与司法正义的桥梁，如今却成为跨境恐吓的工具。自由世界的执法机构若继续在中文技术人才培养和外包政治背景审查上缺位，将直接威胁到海外流亡异见人士的人身与心理安全。
