Commercial choreographers have been bafflingly undervalued for *decades*. Now they’re fighting a multi-front battle for better treatment. Grateful to the (many) artists who were willing to talk with me about that work! @nytimesarts

Small clarification: It is not named, "patrol." It is called, "Neighborhood Safety Companions," not to be confused with any wannabe policing effort. It's a community-based security effort.
The Ktown patrol is on its fourth week and is starting to get recognized.
Ktown resident Frankie Cardona said he was glad to see the volunteers. He’s been worried about a family member who’s Vietnamese and Latino and all his Asian friends.
The Ktown patrol, organized by @ProgressiveAPIs members, doesn't have any LAPD involvement.
Aaron Chin says many Korean immigrants his parents' age would prefer to see community volunteers over police. He said his parents lost faith in police after the LA riots.

In Koreatown tonight, 50+ people walked the wide boulevards with the aim of deterring anti-Asian attacks.
Community patrols sprouted up in NY & the Bay Area months ago.
Efforts in LA have been slow to gain steam but that's changed after the Atlanta shootings.

People have different needs and considerations, but are being kettled away like animals if they choose not to enter PRK. The city is leading with criminalization, where offering ...
