Excited to present my poster on bubblenet feeding in Antarctic humpback whales at #ISBE2024! If you want to learn more, come have a chat at the poster session tonight!
The second social learning strategies tournament, finally out! Legendary work by @DrElenaMiu to get this over the line, I'll be in the corner being sheepish that I started this project in 2012 and it is only now published 😳 - but I still think it's cool!
Super chuffed to be @HatfieldMSC Marine Mammal Institute for a Lavern Visiting Fellowship - so much great science chat w/Mauricio Cantor @taylorahersh@francae and Kate Stafford!
Thrilled to share that our paper is now out in @PNASNews ! We combined social learning strategies, collective behaviour, computational modelling, evolutionary analysis, and interactive online experiments all in one study. Check it out! @CBehav@EES_update@RIKEN_CBS@RIKEN_BTCC
Check out @GussieHollers blog post about her tagging fieldwork at Alaska Whale Foundation:

We tagged 9 whales cooperatively feeding on herring, and for the first time, tagged 8 whales solitarily lunge feeding on krill
🚨New Paper🚨
The first paper of my @NSF Postdoctoral Fellowship at @ucsc is out! We explored bubble-net feeding in Antarctic humpbacks in the @PalmerLTER. Take aways:
-30% of feeding sightings
-bigger groups vs lunge feeding
-early-season peak in use

🎉New paper alert! 🐋 I teamed up with scientists from @MMRP_UH and Alaska Whale Foundation to visualize their data that shows the novel tool use of bubble nets by humpback whales to catch up to *SEVEN* times more krill!! 🦐 @WhaleGough@lbejder
