Twitter’s Slack currently has hundreds of employees giving the 🫡 emoji, meaning they decided to not stay for Musk’s “Twitter 2.0” cultural reset. The company had just under 3,000 employees remaining before the deadline to say “yes” or not hit 20 min ago.
@jamesphobos@tulipsandcoffee@jeanxvaljean yeah i was kind of at a loss as to what to say because we've spammed OP's mentions enough as is but i simply do not think "bad" writing is that big of a deal especially in the face of actual barriers to literacy and publishing
@tewsoft4this but more importantly where did i say she's transphobic??? i said she's a columnist for a magazine that is. NS (particularly during Helen Lewis' tenure) did a lot to legitimise transphobia in liberal UK politics hence my use of the word corrosive
@tewsoft4this i've encountered this thots on yaoi-style argument online countless times over the last 15+ years and the people making them tend not to have worthwhile opinions on genre fiction but i could definitely be wrong! i don't know OP like that
there's a discussion to be had about craft and whether authors are as good at prose as they used to be but to do that you'd actually have to talk about the publishing industry and the aforementioned editing crisis which is less convenient than blaming Big Fujo
also something something enshittification of the editing process something idk but the number of times i've read a book with SO much promise but fell flat is astounding & i think we do books an injustice by failing to comprehend how much a good editor can make or break an author
@tulipsandcoffee@jeanxvaljean this is so weirdddd how are you getting angry at me for ignoring material cause and effect when you're blaming the literacy crisis on the corrupting force of narusasu fanfiction and not indequate early education and access to libraries
@tulipsandcoffee@jeanxvaljean you think i was arguing that only reading fanfic vs reading widely are qualitatively the same? i was arguing that it isn't one or the other.
@tulipsandcoffee@jeanxvaljean if someone doesn't it in them to go looking for books w/o being prompted then i can't imagine they have it in them to put in the hard work it takes to write a book lol
@tulipsandcoffee@jeanxvaljean "I do not believe that human achievement is tied to some sort of innate ceiling of capability"
neither do i? but like. i do believe in that you have to have the desire and drive to read and read widely to be a half-decent writer. reading is the easy part!
