Driving Mass Transit for Bangalore's ORR Corridor: With a continued focus on promoting mass transit and public transport usage along the Outer Ring Road (ORR), Outer Ring Road Companies Association (ORRCA) met Managing Director (MD) of BMRCL, Dr. J. Ravishankar, IAS to review metro progress and discuss key updates for the corridor.
1. The KR Puram to Silk Board metro line - Phase 2A is scheduled to commence operations by December 2026.
2. It has been agreed that median, footpath, and road restoration will be taken up promptly by BMRCL once construction in each station area is completed.
3. Additional initiatives under discussion include median plantation, enhanced last-mile connectivity, higher train frequency, adequate parking facilities, and multi-level car parking systems to ensure commuter convenience

ORRCA had a productive meeting with Shri Maheshwar Rao, IAS, BBMP Chief Commissioner, and the MD of BMRCL along with his key team members to discuss critical road infrastructure challenges along the Outer Ring Road.
The discussions focused on tackling illegal parking and encroachment, enhancing preparedness for the upcoming rainy season, especially in waterlogging-prone areas and upgrading service roads and footpaths. The meeting also addressed the upgradation of 22 arterial roads, including Gear School Road, Kariamma Agrahara Road, and Sakra Road connecting Old Airport to Bellandur, as well as progress on the ongoing Panathur Road development.
BMRCL shared updates on metro works, with the KR Puram to Silk Board line targeted for operational status by September 2026. All stakeholders - ORRCA, BBMP, and BMRCL reaffirmed their commitment to collaboration, discussing the way forward, exploring potential solutions, and addressing bottlenecks to make ORR better for everyone.

ORRCA: ORR Works Progress Update
Works on the ORR service road from Devarabeesanahalli to Kadubeesanahalli are advancing with coordinated efforts from BBMP, BMRCL, BWSSB, ORRCA, and BTP. In the last week, 1.4 km has been covered, with the DBM layer now complete, paving the way for a zero-pothole road and improved commuter experience.
As work progresses, we hope to see a noticeable difference in employees' daily commutes, improving overall mobility along ORR.
The BBMP team continues to work round the clock, and for the 1.4 km stretch, following are the works ahead.
1. Footpath construction

3. Kerb shoulder drain
4. Vertical grating
5. Bituminous Concrete (BC) layer

ORRCA Drive-Through: Silk Board to KR Puram | Driving Urban Mobility Forward
On March 13th, ORRCA and key authorities conducted an early morning drive-through from Silk Board to KR Puram, focusing on critical infrastructure challenges and implementing actionable solutions to enhance the Outer Ring Road (ORR).
Key Actions Identified:
1. Zero-Pothole Initiative – Ensuring ORR remains pothole-free, with BBMP committed to regular road maintenance and timely repairs.
2. BWSSB Pipeline Work Completion – Scheduled for end of March 2025, with a strict mandate to restore dug roads overnight, maintaining motorability, with an emphasis on quality assurance.
3. Traffic Management – Bangalore Traffic Police to take strict action against illegal parking on service roads and footpaths to reduce congestion.
4. Encroachment Removal Drive – BBMP to clear unauthorized structures, improving pedestrian access and road efficiency.
5. Metro Connectivity – BMRCL reaffirmed that the KR Puram to Silk Board Metro line remains on track for June 2026, a much-needed mass transit solution aimed at decongesting ORR, enhancing connectivity, and providing commuters with a reliable, efficient alternative to road transport.

Outer Ring Road Companies Association (ORRCA) leads massive clean up drive
The Outer Ring Road Companies Association (ORRCA), in collaboration with BBMP, BMRCL, BTP, BWSSB, BWSML and dedicated teams, has initiated a major cleanup drive along Outer Ring Road (KR Puram to Silk Board) to remove solid waste, green waste, and construction debris from the main carriageway, medians, and areas under flyovers. These obstructions have not only rendered sections of the road unusable but also posed serious safety hazards for commuters and pedestrians.
This initiative is a significant step toward transforming Outer Ring Road into a cleaner, safer, and more efficient corridor, benefiting thousands of daily commuters in Bangalore’s IT hub. This is just the beginning of the effort.
