🇩🇪 Nick Woltemade is keeping his cool despite watching from the bench during Germany’s opening World Cup victory over Curacao. The towering 6ft 6in star is waiting for another opportunity tonight as his country prepares to clash with the Ivory Coast in Canada.
It has been a whirlwind period for our 24-year-old forward, who opened up about a rollercoaster debut season on Tyneside that saw him converted into a midfielder at one point by Eddie Howe—a tactical twist that even drew public criticism from Germany boss Julian Nagelsmann. Reflecting on his rapid rise and fluctuating game time, Woltemade admitted that his recent experiences have completely transformed his reality.
“The goals have given me a lot of confidence. I know the part I played in our (Germany’s) successful qualification, and I’ve shown what I’m capable of at this level. But I was always aware that there might be other phases as well. That’s exactly what happened when I joined Newcastle and scored a lot of goals at first. Then there are times when things don’t quite click. That doesn’t rattle me. I can handle it. All in all, the last year has been a mad one for me. It’s changed my life. When I was standing on the pitch with the whole team before the match against Curacao and we were singing the national anthem, I was grinning from ear to ear. It’s such a huge and wonderful thing to be part of the biggest stage in football.”
⚽ The debate surrounding Woltemade’s best position continues to rumble on for both club and country. Having demonstrated his tactical flexibility across the front line and deeper in the engine room, the Toon favourite dismissed the idea that he needs to be pigeonholed into a single traditional role. He pointed to England captain Harry Kane as the prime example of how modern center-forwards must adapt to survive at the absolute pinnacle of the game.
“I feel comfortable playing in a central role, whether on my own up front, as part of a strike partnership or a line behind the strikers. It doesn’t really matter whether that’s a centre-forward or whatever you call it. I think football has changed. It’s become more versatile. Even Harry Kane isn’t a classic centre-forward. I watched England’s 4–2 win against Croatia in their first World Cup match. Kane’s a goalscorer, of course, but he’s not a classic centre-forward either. I can’t think of anyone at the top level who fits that profile quite so well. To be honest, that type of player doesn’t really exist anymore.”
With Germany facing the Ivory Coast tonight, we will be watching closely to see if our versatile star gets the nod to unleash his unique skill set on the world stage!
C'mon Nagelsmann! 🇩🇪🏁🇩🇪

Newcastle United still doesn’t know how Liverpool were able to sign Victor Munoz over the past 24 hours…
Newcastle United also knew Liverpool had wanted Victor Munoz throughout the entire transfer saga 🤯🤯🤯

HT: England 2 Croatia 2
It was the concern going into finals, England will struggle against the very best attackers - & even those a rung below
Two excellent Croatia goals but England easy to work through - midfield not functioning as a unit at all
God save the Kane...
As per Keith Downie, we have been used by the player and his camp as I predicted on my earlier post!
🚨 Newcastle thought they had a deal in place for Victor Muñoz — before a late Liverpool hijack.
✔️ 💰 Newcastle had a fee of £29m (+£4.3m) ACCEPTED by Osasuna and the player had AGREED personal terms and told Newcastle United that he wanted to sign. Agent fees were also agreed.
👨🏻⚕️ Newcastle had the wheels in motion for a medical over in the US and were on the verge of completing a deal, vut they were instructed to wait over the last 24 hours by the player's representatives, and Liverpool swooped.
🔴 Liverpool had always been at the table for Muñoz so they didn't come in at the last minute, but agreed to pay the £34.5m release clause (two instalments) and Muñoz chose Anfield.
🤷🏽♂️ Newcastle United are now trying to get to the bottom of what happened in the last 24 hours, but there was always top competition for the winger.
4 days into the window we hit the first speed bump!

England have defeated Croatia 4-2 in Dallas, with a brace from Harry Kane, plus strikes from Jude Bellingham and subsitute Marcus Rashford.
An outstanding second half by Thomas Tuchel's side was the big factor in the win, England dominated after half-time.
Former Magpies Elliot Anderson and Anthony Gordon started the game.
🇧🇷 Joelinton has been pictured training with Brazilian side Sport Recife as he looks to maintain his fitness ahead of our return to pre-season next month.
The 29-year-old midfielder is back in his homeland over the summer enjoying a break after a gruelling season for Newcastle. But Joelinton isn't taking things too easily as he has linked up with his former side to keep in shape before Eddie Howe's side return to the Knox on the 13th July to begin their preparations for the 2026/27 season.

🇪🇸 Sevilla want to sign Odysseas Vlachodimos on a permanent basis from Newcastle United following a successful loan spell, but their financial difficulties will mean that they will be unlikely to match Newcastle's asking price.
As such, Vamos Mi Sevilla (via SportWitness) report they are looking into creative solutions to bring the Greek international back to the club while also reducing the cost. And one of those solutions would be to give Newcastle first refusal or a priority purchase option on various assets in the first team or in the club’s youth system.
Sevilla have a very strong academy system which could appeal to Newcastle, while first team players such as French midfielder Lucien Agoume are highly sought after.
Whether or not Newcastle give the proposal any credence remains to be seen but it is an interesting approach to keep an eye on! 👀

Chelsea want £40m+ for Liam Delap, according to the ever reliable Ben Jacobs- I hope they get it!
Tottenham and Newcastle have been strongly linked, but nobody is daft enough to pay that and give them a profit, not even Spurs! And don't talk about Caught Offside and their 'swap deal' proposition! 🤣

📅 June 17, 2011: Demba Ba signs for #NUFC! 🇸🇳🍓

I know Tottenham have finished 17th in back to back Premier League seasons but they are still a problem in the transfer market
They are London based, offer players higher wages while also looking more ambitious than us going into next season
I underestimated them because I personally believed Tonali wouldn’t of pushed for that move. De Zerbi is from the same town as Tonali so potentially the manager pull has been a major factor in the media push
Truthfully we still aren’t there yet and have just had an awful season after an awful summer window. The PIF has to get serious done this summer to get the club back on track
Even Sunderland is in a better spot than us atm
