@Ssunder_lol Could be true (I'm skeptical). But truthfully, I have two kids, a (more than) full-time job, and tons of other ways to spend my free time. If a game doesn't hook me after 4 hours, I'm just gonna move on with my life.

@renault_captain I mean, kinda? Bethesda has made good games in the past. All the Elder Scrolls games are good to great, and there's a reason they keep republishing Skyrim: it's their best work. Even Fallout 3+4 are pretty decent (but worse than / tonally removed from the rest of the franchise).

@DanThurot Gave it 4 hours. Ready to stop (thank you Game Pass for letting me feel guilt-free about that choice). Very lackluster opening. Just, "Here's my spaceship. You're an explorer now." Feels largely built around crafting systems I will never care about. Gunplay not particularly fun.

@banzainator I was once losing my mind trying to punch out a brand new game, absolutely livid there was no guidance. Took about 10 minutes of frustration and very vocal grumbling before I finally realized they had printed a diagram on the inside box lid.

@elizhargrave The idea that Kickstarter would level the playing field (shocker: it didn't) implies that the general populace makes more fair publishing decisions than industry professionals (muddled somewhat by publisher use of Kickstarter). I could believe it's more fair, but...not that much.

@TeacherLinguist I finished Even Though I Knew the End a few days ago, and while I'm not sure how exactly it qualified for romance book club, it's one of the best things I've read because of romance book club.

@DanThurot I decided this would be my year of reading, and ended up reading 212 books. This was done at the expense of every other hobby and aspiration I have. I don't regret it, but next year I will be shooting for a much more reasonable 50. Or fewer.

@DanThurot Tough call. The most engrossing read for me was probably Mrs. Everything. Got some tears out of me.

One of the romances, A Heart of Blood and Ashes, had worldbuilding/plotting on par with the best in fantasy; I was impressed. Also, it's a romance, so it has a lot of sex.
