Amazing turnout in Whitehall for the @NEUnion action, along with @pcs_union@ucu and everyone else out today! British education workers deserve competitive pay and conditions in properly-funded schools, colleges and unis. #PayUp#strikes
@Miss_Snuffy@arc_forum The ordinary people of Southport volunteered in their hundreds this morning to repair the damage done to a blameless mosque by a mob of out-of-town rioters, attacking an Islamic target based on a false rumour.
@DonNantwich@RichardJMurphy What, the EDL wierdos? I quite agree. Great to see the people of Southport volunteering in their hundreds this morning to repair the blameless mosque though.
To be fair to the BBC, their hand was forced on reporting the suspect's nationality because misinformation about it which led to last night's violence.
A simple question.
Why did the BBC ever think it appropriate to report that the suspect in the Southport killings was born in Cardiff to parents from Rwanda?
If he'd been born in Surrey to parents from Yorkshire, I am certain that they would not have pointed that out.
Are they trying to create, or even imply that there are, second-class British citizens?
This feels horribly like racism from the BBC, with the implication being that this group is made up of people who could be deported from the UK because they might have a claim to citizenship elsewhere. If that is what is happening, the BBC is supporting the far-right playbook.
An explanation is needed. Why is this apparent racism allowed from our state broadcaster?
@RogerDodger1000 @BestForBritain Well yes that's the point. He said he wouldn't parachute in a plan from Whitehall, he'd make a plan WITH the people of Grimsby, not just for them
@waitmanb We're no less susceptible to national propaganda than any other nation. A lot of it is Bletchley Park discourse too - we're aware that the Soviets did more fighting and a lot of our kit came from the US, we sell ourselves the idea that breaking Enigma was a strategic linchpin.
@introvert_actor@jonnybid That's exactly why they were included of course - the idea is to see how the children deal with reading about something they've (probably) never heard of before. Though last year's non-fiction was about a circus performer, so go figure.
@CaptainMeh @JBYoung80 @IsabelOakeshott You have no idea what my class is, Brexit has screwed the working class much harder than the wealthy (who buy their way around things like travel restrictions), and you'll not find a more little England bunch than prommers. The ones who want to keep us in place are Farage & Co.
@YesYesNanette @D16584667 @ShamanGriff The Prom performance of Beethoven's 9th back in August was beautiful! Catch it on BBC iplayer if it's a available to you
@CaptainMeh@IsabelOakeshott That's all it is for you, isn't it? After all, you've got nothing else out of it, the country is quite literally crumbling and full of shit, but even if you end up eating from a bin, you'll still be thinking 'we beat them'. Whoever 'them' are.
No, mate. We all lost.
