Jokes aside blaming a ministry for not sending you a translation of something said in one of your official languages seems off. Especially if it’s a regional language used by a minister of foreign affairs tasked with interacting with these foreign governments. Being turned outwards by design of your position, while speaking only inwards, on the other hand, would make no sense. We are part of the Francophonie and leverage the advantages this brings us but want to chastise our own officials for speaking French as well as English and Kinyarwanda? On veut le beurre et l’argent du beurre. Les gens s’obstinent dans des réponses impolies pour cacher leurs propres lacunes….Des médias qui commentent sur la géopolitique régionale devraient avoir des traducteurs pour le Français et le swahili, tout simplement.

As commemoration week ends, but Kwibuka continues. As a young person, did you truly learn something or all you did was monitor who did and didn’t post?

As a tip, one thing that helps me to stay grounded and focused. Each year, I focus on a specific topic and study it deeply. This year, I explored the humanitarian crisis during and after the genocide and how it was addressed; last year, I examined the genocide from the perpetrators’ perspective. Thats just few of many topics.

Let’s not make commemoration just a routine or performative, let it be a time to learn.
