In the wake of yesterday's racist attack in Buffalo, media corporations, elected leaders and the police will attempt to distract from who and what is responsible. We can’t let those who are truly responsible hide:
The question that MUST be addressed is whether there is institutional awareness of the problem Black and Brown teachers face. The system wants our skin. But does it want our history, our trauma, the way we show up and fight for our communities?
At the September BEA Representative Council meeting, representatives overwhelmingly voted in support of signing the Eastside Pathways Equity Pledge as a Partner Organization. Eastside Pathways Equity Pledge participants believe that:

While there are politicians attempting to prevent teachers from telling the truth about this country, one thing I’m certain of is that there are so many teachers out there who will redouble their efforts to help their students understand this history & we’ll all be better for it.
