Wang Yibo reflects on his first stint, race preparations, car performance, and his preference for endurance racing in an interview following his impressive drive for UNO Racing.
👤: First of all, congratulations on bringing the car back safely. Endurance races last eight hours and place high demands on physical stamina and tire management. What kind of preparations did you and the team make for this?
Yibo: The goal was simply to complete my stint safely and without errors. I did accidentally clip another car at Turn 14—I’m very sorry about that. It may have caused the steering to pull slightly to one side. However, I hope it won’t have a major impact on the car.
👤: You certainly delivered a fantastic performance and even set a new personal-best lap time over the past two days. You won the GT3 Pro-Am class in last year’s eight-hour race. Returning to the same track this year with a three-driver lineup, how does your understanding compare with last year’s?
Yibo: My understanding of the car, the track, and the overall race rhythm is different this time. I hope to perform well during my second stint and avoid a significant drop in lap times due to fatigue. There are many variables in endurance racing, and lap times are heavily influenced by factors such as tire grip.
👤: The Shanghai International Circuit is the track where you’ve had the most racing experience this year, having competed in both sprint and endurance races here. Which format do you prefer?
Yibo: Personally, I prefer endurance racing because I like driving at my own pace.
👤: Understood. I hope for even better coordination and communication among you and your teammates later on, and I wish the UNO Racing Team a great result.
