The Establishment was defeated when Pakistan held its first real election in 1970.

The Establishment was defeated when Benazir Bhutto came back to win over the Zia era and ISI backed candidates.

When Musharaf gave up the uniform and tried launching a political party he lost miserably.

Even in 2018 the Establishment had to disqualify Nawaz Sharif, push electables into PTI, have military officers inside polling stations and the RTS was brought down to make Khan PM. Even then they had to rely on JKT’s plane.

Today again it seems like the Establishment backed candidates have lost.

Whatever the mandate of the people is, it should be respected, if efforts are made to reverse the results of the elections then it will push the country into further chaos.

From Jinnah to Jinnah house

The founder of the nation, Quaid e Azam Muhammad Ali Jinnah was slowly dying on a stretcher in a military ambulance that broke down in a moment that provides the perfect metaphor for the country that is Pakistan.

No civilian Prime Minister has ever completed their 5 year term in the past 77 years. From March 2008 to Nov 2022 Pakistan had 6 Prime Ministers(Term limit: 5 years) and 3 Army Chiefs (Term Limit: 3 years)

A couple of years after Jinnah’s death, Pakistan’s first Prime Minister Liaquat Ali Khan was assassinated, 5 years later another founding father of Pakistan became the Prime Minister, Hussain Shaheed Suhrawardy, only to be jailed 2 years later.

The next time a national Bengali leader rose to the top was in 1971, when Pakistan’s first election was held, the result split the country in two.

The democratically elected Prime Minister of West Pakistan, Zulfiqar Ali Bhutto was hanged barely a few years later. One of his son was poisoned, the other gunned down in Karachi

His daughter did become Prime Minister but two decades later she was assassinated.

The other civilian Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif was first exiled then disqualified then jailed, his daughter was also arrested infront of his eyes.

Yousouf Raza Gillani was disqualified then his son was kidnapped.

Shahid Khaqqan Abbasi was jailed and put me in Adiala.

Shahbaz Sharif only became PM after serving time in prison.

And now Imran Khan has been jailed for ten years - where are those distributing in 2017. When a 10 year prison sentence for a former PM was a matter of great celebration for them.

But these violent delights have violent ends

We need to step back and see - why do all civilian Prime Ministers of Pakistan, notwithstanding those who served under a military dictator, either end up dead or in jail?

Why are they not allowed to complete their terms? Not run their parties? Not contest elections.

Khan celebrated when it was happening to Nawaz, I am sure Nawaz Sharif is celebrating today, and tomorrow when the system brings back Imran Khan to get rid of Nawaz Sharif, there will be people celebrating again.
