Me da risa cómo muchos hacen berrinche por Ciconia Phase 2 cuando el nuevo anime de Higurashi no tiene nada que ver con que Ryukishi no saque una vn
Pero el chiste es quejarse jsksjsjs
I'm personally very excited for a new When They Cry anime. Please consider that negativity towards this project is NOT going to bring you more Umineko or Ciconia. There are more constructive ways to show your appreciation for those works
In light of the recent announcement of the new #Higurashi anime series, I'd like to share my thoughts about the lack of #Umineko adaptation. Please note this is merely my personal opinion based on what I know of the industry and absolutely doesn't reflect WH or 07th Expansion stance.
To begin with, I think it is important to point out that adapting a franchise into an anime requires a lot of money, which, 99% of the time, does not come out from the author or the studio pocket but from a production committee and sponsors who are pretty much investing in the project for profits (be it more sales for the source material or merch, IRL events etc).
In other words, more often than not, it is extremely rare that an IP right holders can waltz in a publisher headquarters, pitch an anime series adaptation idea and get greenlit just like that. If anything, it is generally the opposite: producers see the potential in a new anime adaptation project, contact the right holder to sell the pitch and seek their approval, then assemble several actors in the industry to proceed with said project (note that it doesn't mean it must had happened that way for the new Higurashi anime series, but it is very likely how it panned out given the circumstances).
Suffice to say, if you consider the anime industry at large and the legacy of both franchises, it is fair to say that Higurashi has endured the test of time better than Umineko. In other words, from a production committee perspective, Higurashi has a better potential for profit compared to Umineko. Not only their respective anime series have yielded very different sales results, but Higurashi also had a much more noticeable generational impact in the fandom.
In addition, from a production perspective, Higurashi is much more straightforward to adapt than Umineko. Both in term of structure, content and size.
Finally, the timing of the announcement couldn't be more clear: 20th anniversary is a very important milestone, and given the ages of the voice actors and other participants of the anime projects, it make sense to produce another anime series to celebrate that milestone, whereas waiting for another 10 years might not be possible due to unforeseeable factors (although that doesn't mean they won't do it again in another decade)
I understand the frustration many have bottled over the years, which probably exploded with today's announcement, but please keep in mind that 07th Expansion is definitely not neglecting Umineko. From my perspective, they have no way to dictate or stir the ship that is the unforgiving anime industry at large.
As such, please do not beg or harass 07th Expansion and/or any person involved in the new Higurashi anime project.
