Some watch. Some record. Some even cheer. Unfortunately it’s a reflection of our society. And should concern all of us. Behind the badge is a person, a mother, father, son, daughter who just wants to help make a difference.

@anita_atwal For some people it is the accidental finding of OT, but can be at any stage of life. Sadly can be harder to access once older with more responsibilities. The traditional full time degree can be unachievable for some, who would make great OTs.

@DellanorrisOt @theRCOT Agree, so many people still not aware about AHP careers. A careers questionnaire suggested 'healthcare' but to her that meant nursing. So she took A level subjects that interested her but not certain about after. Had never considered OT yet it blended so many of her interests

Few years ago, friend's daughter not sure what to do after Alevels, she wanted to work with people & make a difference - well obviously I told her about Occupational Therapy! She's now in 2nd year & loving it. Important to highlight the profession #OccupationalTherapy @theRCOT

@LucyPearce13 @SarahWatsonOT I sometimes wish more people would complain then maybe preventing deconditioning would be escalated. So often staff shortages are to blame. Patients kept in their beds with bed rails up is seen as 'safer' option to prevent a fall in hospital

@SarahWatsonOT If they are refusing to let her get out of bed then are they depriving her of her liberty? I would ask them if they have a DoLS in place. Bed rails are my biggest challenge & frustration on wards or too often told patient is nursed in bed awaiting therapy. Its basic nursing care.

@SarahWatsonOT Sorry to hear this. It's a whole team approach that is needed to prevent deconditioning. Therapy team are only with patients briefly but nursing staff can have such a positive impact as they are with them day & night but needs good ward leadership.

First day back at work after annual leave, felt all refreshed ... for about an hour!
Busier now than during earlier Covid stages. Deconditioned patients, more complex discharges and continuing staff shortages.
This is relentless and unsustainable #NHSreality #NHS
