We recently held our 3rd annual BioOlympics welcome ceremony! This year, we opened the competition up to all of @UNC_Micro_Imm. We had a great turnout, including several faculty! It was a nailbiter at the end, but the Influenzers group took home the victory!

This is a bittersweet time for PMN. PMN co-founder and long term president @JennyLoome recently completed her dissertation defense, with an outstanding presentation! We will miss her dearly, but we are incredibly excited for her as she continues her career beyond Grad School!

Yesterday, we held a well-deserved celebration for @UNC_Micro_Imm students that recently turned in their written preliminary exam, representing a significant milestone of their PhD training!

Grad school Prelim exams often induce high levels of stress and anxiety. Last week, 2nd year students who are starting their prelim met with a panel of senior students for advice on how to get started and ways to alleviate some of the stress and anxiety associated with the exam.

Today, we held an info session on cold-emailing for professional purposes (job searches, collaborations, help with qualifying exams).

Some top tips:
•Keep it brief
•Personalize the email
•Be specific on action items and deadlines
