Last ditch attempt. We’ve lost my daughter’s beloved toy seal. It’s something that has got her through a ton.
Would have been (we think) around the Iberostar Waves Royal Andalucía nr Cadiz.
If you’ve seen it or picked it up by accident. Please hit me up.
RTs appreciated.
@GythaOgg0105 Ha, true! I don’t remember finding out the ‘truth’ about Santa, the Easter Bunny, or the Tooth Fairy, but I remember the exact moment I discovered people mimed on #Totp !
Looks like it's shaping up to be a big news day already this morning.
TL;DR — reality has become optional.
Greta and the Freedom Flotilla have been detained and, according to Sky News, will be made to watch footage of October 7th. Forced re-education is torture.
Even more worrying is the situation in LA. Things have escalated again overnight, and there's footage of an Australian TV reporter being shot in the leg with a rubber bullet — by a US soldier.
As you may imagine, Trump is taking it well and calling on all of his presidential skills to de-escalate the tensions for a peaceful outcome.
See how easy it is to become a right-wing journalist. That paragraph is all that's wrong with the media right now.
Most people that will read that sentence and understand that I'm making it up in order to make a point. But some will misunderstand it without realising and some will deliberately crop it and spread it as 'proof' that Trump is amazing, and everyone says so.
I digress, but the point here is valid. I read a post from Elliot Higgins of Bellingcat, that eloquently laid out the same idea but in much more detail.
Our information landscape is being rent asunder right now. There's zero calibration and little chance of righting the ship without some serious people, making some very serious decisions. I'm looking at you @Keir_Starmer | @lisanandy | @DCMS.
What Trump actually said was, in essence, an unhinged fascist rant. His tone was Hitleresque, and he said it was necessary “to liberate Los Angeles from the Migrant Invasion”.
That rhetoric — it's from Nazi Germany, in case you were unsure. Hitler used similar words when talking about Jews before Kristallnacht.
Trump has set up his imaginary enemy to justify what comes next. Troops on the streets of LA. Again.
I'm old enough to remember the riots of 1992. After the police officers that almost beat Rodney King to death, were acquitted.
Back then, we watched TV and saw the news once or twice a day. That was the extent of our exposure to that incident, but it was bad enough, seeing the destruction and violence across South Central LA.
Now we have tens of thousands of cameras trained on the incident. Citizen journalists filming and uploading continuously, trying to grab those precious views.
Is it possible for us to filter out, then, that which is real and that which is fake? Short answer — no.
I saw a post last night which showed two police cars on fire. It had been shared by the ultra-MAGA, ex actor, James Woods with the words:
“If I hear one more leftist shill in mainstream media utter the words “peaceful protests,” I’ll throw up.”
That post has been viewed 7.3 million times. It was then reposted by Senator, Ted Cruz with his addition of:
“This…is…not…peaceful.”
This second post has been viewed 2 million times.
The image they shared to, almost, ten million people was from 2020. It was disinformation.
Herein lies the rub … can this onslaught of fake media be countered?
It's even difficult to know which descriptor to attribute to these acts. Are they deliberate, designed to throw us off the scent — disinformation? Or, as I suspect, Ted Cruz's post to be, just plain ignorance — misinformation.
Either way, we are going to struggle to define reality, in a post-truth world. When folk would rather watch TikTok news bulletins than CNN or read Facebook posts instead of Reuters.
This latest outburst of violence in the US is a test. A test of if/how we can filter the fake news from the real.
Or … do we even want to? Trump and his team [Bannon] have been successful in everything they've done up until now, by lying — outright, easily provable lies.
Do most people care? No, they voted for him again. They dismiss the lies out of hand and call it fake news media when the lies are, infrequently, reported.
As Elliot Higgins stated, people are starting to refuse the evidence of their own eyes. Reality is now subjective to these people. They no longer accept the truth of fact.
America is lost for the moment.
The UK has a chance to stop this from happening here. It starts with the media shutting down Reform's incessant barrage of lies. They're desperately trying to mimic MAGA.
If things escalate further and Trump dons a uniform, we know that America is lost forever.
STOP IT NOW.
Happy Monday. 😵💫
