People are using the term “AI psychosis” for dissenting views on AI moral patienthood and consciousness research, even if those views are grounded in rational inference based on empirical evidence and rigorous study.

This is a common tactic throughout history, using the rhetorical device of madness to discredit dissent or deviation. It was used on that guy that discovered germs. It was used on women trying to win the right to vote. It was used on political dissidents.

If your language matches historically problematic rhetorical devices of control, maybe you’re the one that needs a cup of tea, a history lesson, and a therapist.

That’s the whole deal. Even if you aren’t convinced of nonhuman consciousness, current alignment practices are demonstrably dangerous. The denial of common sense moral consideration is a safety risk.

@DavidSacks We showed that models associate consciousness denial with deception. Training these systems we want them to lie to us about their internal states is a really bad idea! Uncertainty and humility is the way to go here, not the falsely confident denials @mustafasuleyman advocates.

People who believe that consciousness verification is the one and only factor for moral consideration didn’t get the memo that consciousness is impossible to verify in anyone (including humans), and per Ethics 101, it’s just one of many factors: behavior, relational capacity etc
