So, apparently, VAR doesn’t cancel yellows except it’s a second yellow, which means VAR actually felt that Romero challenge was a red card and decided to tell the ref to go check for a red card.

The ref got there, looked at the challenge and disagreed with VAR but agreed that the challenge wasn’t Jude’s fault which is why he canceled the yellow and also agreed that the Romero challenge deserved a card but not red which is why he gave him a yellow.

So yes, VAR saw the Romero challenge as a red and the ref decided not to give it and instead give a yellow.
