🚀 Day 197 – Improved the reliability of the MemeMates Reddit Import system by fixing an issue that caused image previews to stop loading after extended usage.

After investigating, I found the problem wasn't Reddit—it was our own Cloud Function rate limiting. Every image preview incremented a per-admin daily download counter, and once the configured limit was reached, further image requests were blocked, resulting in broken previews.

To resolve this, I:
✅ Increased the per-admin daily image quota from 500 → 2000 downloads per UTC day.
✅ Built a complete image quota management system with Cloud Functions to securely retrieve current usage and reset the daily image download counter.
✅ Integrated quota monitoring directly into the Admin Portal, showing "Images today: X / 2000" along with a Reset Image Quota action for administrators.
✅ Preserved all existing security controls by restricting quota management to authenticated admins while keeping Reddit fetch limits, duplicate protection, and other safeguards intact.
The result is a much more reliable Reddit Import workflow for large-scale meme curation. Admins can now browse and review significantly more imported memes without encountering broken image previews, while resource usage remains controlled and secure.

🚀 Day 196 – Built a Reddit Importer for the MemeMates Admin Portal, replacing our manual meme sourcing workflow with an automated, review-first pipeline.

Instead of downloading memes from Reddit and uploading them one by one, admins can now fetch memes directly from curated, country-specific Reddit communities from within the admin portal.

The importer automatically:
✅ Fetches image posts from mapped subreddits
✅ Filters out NSFW content, videos, galleries, text posts, and duplicates
✅ Saves everything as reviewable drafts in Firestore
✅ Preserves Reddit as the original source
To maintain editorial control, nothing is published automatically. Every imported meme appears in a dedicated Reddit Imports dashboard where admins can preview the image, review the title, edit captions or visibility if needed, then either publish it through the existing MemeMates upload pipeline or permanently reject it.
The system integrates seamlessly with our regional content architecture by using configured subreddit-to-country mappings, ensuring imported memes are categorized correctly while preventing duplicate imports across multiple fetches.
This transforms what used to be a repetitive manual process into a scalable content acquisition workflow while keeping humans in complete control of what reaches users.
