It was actually J.P. Crawford’s idea to try third base.
He approached Dan Wilson over the weekend, then his agent reached out to Justin Hollander to double down.
They’re unsure where it’ll go. But Hollander said it showed a lot for a veteran willing to help the team.
The biggest storyline for the Mariners this season, to me, is clear at this point: how far does loyalty and respect go, and how much will they allow that to get in the way of ultimately fielding the best team possible? And, most importantly, what decisions will ownership actually be open to signing off on?
They shouldn’t, and that is addressed in this proposal — you can’t have a top-5 pick in 3 consecutive drafts. I would even make it 2 straight years.
What could the Wizards have done this past year to be good? Sign Kyrie and Myles Turner last offseason? Go look at the FA pool from last year — that doesn’t get them out of the bottom 5.
So because their team just sucks, they should have fewer opportunities to get better? Meanwhile, the Warriors are rewarded with the same chances to WIN the lottery because Jimmy and Steph got hurt? Some teams just need more help and aren’t attracting stars in free agency — the draft is their only shot.
