My thoughts on IBW, ETH India, the current state of crypto events in India and how we can improvise from hereon:

- It is no secret that the quality of ETH India, IBW and related events has been going down for a while. Most attendees who were a regular in the last cycle have stopped coming or only show up to meet their friends and leave.

- ETH India saturated and hit a ceiling. I think one of the biggest mistakes was to hold ETH India in Bangalore every year. A more logical approach would have been to rotate ETH India across different cities.

- This format would have made the hackathon more accessible for young developers in different parts of the country. For some context, the distance between Amritsar and Bangalore is around 2,000km, and Kolkata and Bangalore is roughly 1,600km. An excited, first time hacker will travel a couple times but then have fatigue and not show up later.

- In the years gone by, the EVM/crypto calendar was favorable for holding an event in first week of December. This has now changed drastically.

- Devcon/nect runs in the third week of November and attracts the best brains in EVM/crypto. Lately, Solana has taken the first two weeks of December for their own flagship events. As a result, most attendees go to these events and skip ETH India, IBW, etc.

- ETH India and IBW need to find a better time period in the EVM ecosystem calendar to host these events. Maybe second/third week of December? Maybe second/third week of March? Maybe ask the community and take their feedback?

- We need bigger ambitions. How can we attract developers from the nearing countries to ETH India? How can we attract the best crypto operators based in SEA to come to IBW?

- Polygon was and is the poster boy of EVM ecosystem in India. The work that Polygon did to bring young developers from tier 2/3 cities and colleges into the ecosystem was second to none. There has been a clear gap and missing link ever since Polygon slowed down on their developer activation programs in the region. For the larger success of EVM ecosystem and to attract young developers we need Polygon to resume these efforts or for someone else in the EVM ecosystem to take this forward.

- IBW needs to define their target audience. Is it BDs, developers, content creators, KOLs, VCs, founders? Who are they trying to attract? If you're trying to attract everyone then thats a bad idea too.

- Too much of anything spoils everything. I am looking at you content creators. Read the room.

- I see a lot of people blame government regulations and unclarity as an excuse for the low turnout. This is called passing the buck. Maybe for once we should not make excuses and try to figure a workable solution?

- Make it attractive enough for mid and high level crypto operators and developers to come to ETH India/IBW.

- Make IBW more lively with keynotes and product launches. No one wants to sit and hear a speaker go off topic and then shill their product for half hour.

- Help the best projects born at ETH India to turn into real life companies. Give them a platform, demo day and everything they need at IBW.

- For the sake of this industry stop distributing merch at the main venue. We see more people at merch stations than the speaker sessions inside lol. Maybe give merch at side events only?

- IBW should be moved to Mumbai for 2026 and aligned around Devcon's calendar.

I recognise the effort and hard work ETH India, Devfolio and their team have done in growing India's crypto developer base. I'd love to see them come back stronger and reinvent themselves.

The success of ETH India, IBW and similar events is very important for the eventual success of EVM ecosystem in the subcontinent.
