As a child, I despised cutting my hair and would cry every time. To comfort me, my father would mention great Nigerian women who also had short hair, such as @obyezeks . Today, I got to sit in a room and have conversations with her. It felt good 😊

Between 2015 and 2021, financial contributions from 11 #AFPinNigeria states constituted a majority of family planning budgetary allocations. It's commendable and we ask that government demonstrates leadership by being a major financier of the FP programs. @PathfinderInt#SMAFPNG
#AFPinNigeria, in line with Nigeria's FP2030 commitments, emphasized the need for state-led accountability mechanisms as a requirement for demonstrating transparency & accountability in family planning funding. We ask that gov't includes media & civil society in these structures.
An #AFPinNigeria advocacy win in Oyo in 2017 was the release of >N16 million for family planning (FP) which exceeded the budgeted amount by over 50%. Such efforts are commended and we ask that media executives provide visibility to such successes in their health stories.
#SMAFPNG
In 2020, #AFPinNigeria and partners advocacy led to budgetary allocation of ₦500 Million for family planning from Gombe, Kaduna, Kebbi, Kwara, Lagos, Nasarawa, Ogun, Oyo & Plateau. All State govts need to ensure the creation of FP budget lines to meet programme needs. #smafp
It is important to ensure that family planning is inclusive, meaning it includes all citizens regardless of gender, marital status, age, sexual orientation or religion. Family planning is one aspect of reproductive health.
#SMAFPNG
As other countries advance progress towards UHC 2030 goals, it is crucial for the Nigerian government to ensure the inclusion of quality family planning (FP) and other reproductive health (RH) services within UHC schemes to promote equity and access to FP/RH services. #SMAFP
Family planning should be made inclusive. It is an aspect of reproductive health which addresses a lot on #SRHR such as HIV/AIDS prevention;Prevention and treatment of #STIs and #STDs; pregnancy care Sexual education and counselling especially for youths. #SMAFPNG@PathfinderInt
For development, government at every levels should pay attention to family planning because a nation cannot move forward if it leaves half of its population behind. Family planning is that tool that enables women to choose and make informed decisions. #SMAFPNG@PathfinderInt
Specialized training for health workers on the medical consequences & treatment of youth for for #FamilyPlanning information & services including #Selfcare needs be promoted to reduce spending on healthcare.
#SMAFPNG@AFPAdvocates_NG@PathfinderInt
Adolescent girls are more at risk of
frequent sexual activity & less able to refuse or demand protection. This places them as the most vulnerable to infection and STDs due to lack of access to #SRHR & #FP information & service.#SMAFPNG@PathfinderInt@AFPAdvocates_NG@_Seyiwryte
