Bacterial Vaginosis or Fishy Odor/Fishy smell is NOT hygiene issue.

It is NOT most times an STI or being promiscuous at all.
It can even happen from being too clean with your vagina.

Bacterial Vaginosis is an infection among women of reproductive age that occurs when there's an overgrowth of bacteria and displacement of normal bacteria in the vagina.

Your vagina is naturally acidic and has good bacteria like Lactobacilli that keep the pH low and protect you.

When this balance is disrupted, Lactobacilli reduce and the pH goes UP...

🛑What bacteria are involved?

We have Gardnerella vaginalis and other anaerobes that work hand in hand to increase the PH, thus the odor.

🛑What disrupts the pH?

- Douching
- Tub bathing / sitting in baths for too long
- Intravaginal hygiene products
- IUD device
- Sometimes multiple sexual partners and frequent sex can disrupt the pH

🛑The smell gets worse during sex with your husband??

Yes.
Semen is alkaline, so it makes the odor more intense.
Your vagina needs acidic environment. Remember.

🛑Does it come with abdominal pain?

No.
Most cases of Bacterial Vaginosis rarely present with abdominal pain.
The discharge is usually thin, white/grey and adherent to the vaginal walls.

🛑What advice do I have for you?
- Avoid douching
- Avoid bubble baths or over-the-counter vaginal hygiene products
- If you want to clean the vulva, use plain water or hypoallergenic soap
- Avoid liquid soaps and body washes inside the vagina

🛑A research :Gardnerella Vaginalis can harbour within the urethra of your husband which can cause recurrent infection sometimes.
You can get him treated as well
