Busy here right now on @bbc5live, lots of live cricket from the Ashes with @EllyOldroyd and @henrymoeranBBC in the commentary box from Perth, Australia... listen with @lauramcghie now on BBC Sounds/your trusty radio π»
@ruby_dunn01 I'd head to Choral Matins at @StPaulsLondon or @wabbey at 10am. Like Choral Evensong but fewer people and still done in about 45 mins (maybe longer if sermon). Enjoy, wherever you go!
This will disappear from @BBCSounds on Sunday, so I have to say now that you must listen to this!
One of the best broadcasts of @BBCRadio3 Choral Evensong I have heard.
Absolutely brilliant organ playing from Martin Baker and chant from @KensingtonRC

@terratologist I think Larkin captures sth relevant in a UK where many are atheist/agnostic but still find churches/traditions beautiful/intriguing, and engage with 'religion' less commitedly
Churches should be open to this new spirituality & 'contemplation without commitment' using music/art
However
1) British arts globally known - Proms, Glasto, BBC commissions (NB/ BBC = Β£5bn GVA p/a)
2) arts value economic AND qualitative - educating, lifts mood (& productivity)
3) does this show lack of guiding values in politics (social capital, mental health, open-mindedness)
Grateful to sing weekly with the @GrosvenorChapel Choir.
Yes, Renaissance church music might not have the reach today that it had in the 15th/16th centuries.
But isn't it special to sit in a beautiful and historic church as a choir (and organ) sings calming and ethereal music?
Conductor @nezetseguin discusses the intense preparation and studying required for Bradley Cooper to conduct #Mahlerβs Second Symphony with us in Ely Cathedral as Leonard Bernstein in #MAESTRO. In selected cinemas today and on Netflix on 20 December.
Brilliant to be at @smitf_london last week to see @edballs flying the flag for his hero, Herbert Howells!
Ed conducted two pieces in the concert with @BBCSingers, @nic_chalmers and @Ashleyjgrote.
Great to see a celeb who loves choral and organ music, Howells and Evensong!
Thank you & bravo to our singers, conductor @nic_chalmers, organist @Ashleyjgrote and our presenter / guest conductor @edballs for two very special evenings at @Nrw_Cathedral and @smitf_london this week. ππΆ Together we celebrated the life and music of Herbert #Howells.
Happened upon the choir rehearsing for Choral Evensong at All Saints' Church, Blackheath, at the weekend.
Churches are havens of beauty, calm and creativity, aren't they?
The doors should always be open for passersby and big signs outside promoting 'free music'
@ChoralEvensong
Choral Evensong at @OldSaintPauls Edinburgh is about beauty, calm, ritual and contemplation.
Great to hear Calum Robertson (@SalandCalduo) on church music and the new recording of his choral setting of I Zimmerman's poem 'Liturgy' on @BBCRadioScot 1h47m

Great to see 200+ people of all backgrounds and ages @StBartholomews on Thursday night for Evensong in the City. Beautiful choral music in one of London's oldest churches - and a free dinner (with donation) after!
Calm, beauty, creativity and community - the 21st-century church?
Punchy and uplifting music this morning at The @GrosvenorChapel in Mayfair, London!
Including William Byrd's 'O quam gloriousum' and Orlando de Lassus's Missa puisque j'ay perdu.
Free choral music for all!
