J Allen Hynek said the aliens in Close Encounters were based on real life reports
“Spielberg had really done his homework and was very knowledgeable.
He based the appearance of the creatures on actual UFO reports.
Generally large heads, spindly bodies.”
Hynek was the scientific advisor for the Air Force’s Project Blue Book which investigated UFOs during the 50s and 60s. He would depart with the Air Force because the Air Force was not interested in genuine scientific inquiry, but rather had a mandate to debunk all UFO sightings to calm the public.
Hynek would later be an advisor to Steven Spielberg’s Close Encounters of the Third Kind which was released in 1977.
😱AI flight control is getting crazy!
