This is why she’s the GOAT. Not quite tween for me, more early 20s into early 30s. But lots of the artists I love, I’ve got into and gone back, with kelela it’s got into and gone forward
No idols but I’m crying to new avatar thinking about how I’ve had a fave Kelela song in almost every stage of life from tween to preteen to new adult to pushing 30’s in this essay i will
@thobbsjourno It’s soooo weird. I even work in marketing and don’t even get excited about marketing campaigns, so god knows why people do this. I think it’s turning music into sport 😂
Plus the idea that ‘personal style’ should be the sum total of all your cultural interests is a pretty insane way to think about style, which is what seemingly gets pushed by most fashion ppl
Pretty much. There’s not enough stuff out there on how to build a wardrobe you love in your price range, will keep coming back to and will go out of your way to repair over time. That seems more functional than just ‘find your personal style’.
The problem with male and female fashion “influencers” is that they are so far removed from reality it’s literally impossible to relate to them. What do you mean you have a brand new outfit for every event, for every “date night” for every day?? It’s gluttonous consumerism. It’s a waste. It’s the very antithesis of style. I love Ralph Lauren’s philosophy on style. He says a “fashion victim” relies on a label to prove they have taste, whereas true style comes from wearing what you enjoy to express who you are. “Style is very personal. It has nothing to do with fashion. Fashion is over quickly. Style is forever.”
Also much better than influencers essentially playing show and tell with the maddening amount of new stuff they buy every month or get gifted without telling you.
Had fun making this. Starts with dub, into jazz/soul and brit funk style stuff, then onto grime/garage/modern rap and back down again through soul, jazz and dub.
Mostly Black British Artists.

Hard to believe he was a teenager when he wrote most of it, but then there are lines where you defo know he’s a teenager, cool bit of tension. “Play kiss chase with your aunt Maureen” is a hilarious bar
Listened to Boy In Da Corner for the first time in forever yesterday. Dizzee’s flow is astounding, the way he catches the pockets and the rhythm of his lyrics
